GO! Smell the flowers founder members!

Posted on September 18th, 2007 by Jim

It is high time we raised it a gear here at the GO! Smell the flowers community as we endeavour to inspire you, brighten up your time online and really make you think.

cool.jpg

We are proud to announce our first tranche of founder members all with the common purpose of inspiring others with their reason to be. All have their own story to tell, their own blogs and will post articles and comments as and when the mood takes them! With many of our regulars ‘keeping it real’ and often questioning the norm this was the next logical step in providing our readers with more depth at GO! Smell the flowers.

So here we GO!, please welcome:

Mighty Morgan - Inspirer, who empowers others into positive change. She challenges not only herself but others to search within the deepest aspects of themselves to discover who they choose to be, in order to find happiness and fulfillment.

Scruffy Hippo - A rare combination of hands on in home renovation and maintenance  and a hands on healer and psychic clairvoyant.

Make things happen with Arvind Devalia performance coach who has had his fair share of healthy debates here at GO! Smell the flowers.

Jo Parfitt - The Expat inspirer who specialises in publishing and making career dreams come true, by as she says ’sharing what I know to help others grow’.

Diane Aldred and her handmade books - Empty nester turned book fanatic with a breath of fresh air blog.

We’ll be introducing another 5 inspirational founders at the end of October, all involved with the theme of sport. Please welcome our contributors, do visit their blogs and let’s hope that Sweet dreams are made of these!

  7. sarah says:

Welcome! Looks like the flowers are blossoming nicely! Where are the 5 of you from? Interesting to see how you handle some of the discussion here, Billy Warhol-any relation to Andy?

  8. Diane says:

    Hello everyone!

Thanks to Jim and Emma for this opportunity! I look forward to many happy hours - days even! - getting to know you all. The flowers are looking lovely so far!

I am from Dorset in the UK, by the way. A beautiful county - Thomas Hardy’s Wessex - with a coastline which has just been named a World Heritage site, and is now called the Jurassic Coast.

  9. Diane says:

PS was just checking out the other founder member’s blogs but the link to Arvind’s is broken. Thought you might like to know….

Great blogs, guys, by the way!

  10. Hi Diane and the others,

Thanks Diane for letting us know.

My link may be broken but I am here , all fired up and excited to be part of this wonderful community.

Jim (Admin) is on the case, but in the meantime, click on my name above and you can get to my blog.

    Thanks and all the best.

    Arvind

  11. It is also great to reconnect with Jo Parfitt.

Jo is the wonderful lady who 4 years ago helped me publish my first book “Get a Life” in just 4 weeks from initial idea to a printed copy in my hands.

So if you need inspiration or help with your writing project, Jo Parfitt is the one!

    Arvind

  12. admin says:

Thanks for pointing out the dodgy link Daine, it’s appreciated and fixed.

Jim has fixed it (rattle, rattle, jooo-lry, jooo-lry) :0)

  13. Thanks Jim for fixing that.

And thank you and Emma for giving me and the others this space to share our “gifts”.

Sarah - to answer your question, I now live in central London, but born in Kenya to Indian parents. Confused?!

So how do you think I feel?

  14. Scruffyhippo says:

Hi folks, it’s a fantastic honour being part of the team here, and I to would like to thank Jim and emma for asking me to become a founder member, I myself come from deepest Essex in the Uk, probably the flatest county in the UK, I hope to be able to add some interesting input over time and look forward to meeting you all here.

  15. Tomas says:

    Hi,
even writing to you uplifts - while addressing you I feel myself as a participant of the sharing of the smile - that’s the smelling of the flowers.
    Thank you.

The picture above is so wonderful. While reading “the life is short”, I rejoice on the awesome beauty of your blog and our life. The design of Go! Smell the flowers looks so simple, but that’s the perfection - the visual simplicity of your blog expresses the purity of the aroma of the flowers - wow, even a look at your blog urges to go and to smell the flowers

  16. Gary says:

Nice idea as the site grows it will need more people no doubt.

    A quick question though.

Why didn’t scruffy hippo predict exactly who would be chosen what with her being a psychic and that.

May I suggest a cynics group as well in the future?

    Say moi, GIC, AEP, Lemmy?

Good idea though and a testimony to how the site has progressed since I decided to grace it with my presence!!

  17. victorya says:

Good idea, but questions, are these permanent members of the team or monthly guest hosts?

It sounds thrilling either way :)

    • admin says:

Good question Victorya - the founders are permanent members assuming they have an active e presence and get involved with comments and posting their own content and comments to promote their specific area of knowledge and / or add to a particular discussion.

Our 5 flower smelling friends will all have their own usernames and can post as and when the urge takes them.

Then as time goes on we’ll invite 5 other founders we finalise and base it around ‘inspiration through sport’, for example and on it GO!s as we build more community functions that we’ll provide to make it an easier, more enjoyable and interactive experience.

As us flowers grow we’ll see what develops but the key goal is brightening peoples time up on line, inspiring, discussing and gaining insights.

The response today, for example, has been awesome and makes for more levels of discussion! Great.

  18. Scruffyhippo says:

Hi Gary, Scruffyhippo is actually a he lol, well he was the last time he looked in a mirror :)

  19. Gary says:

apologies scruffy I did the old psychic trick of complete guesswork. I was on a 50/50 anyway.

Why I am getting the word ‘Colchester’ or the place ‘Colchester’. It has some significance to you doesn’t it?

And the smell of the sea- Southend?

  20. lemmyfrommotorhead says:

Can you read tea leaves too Scruffyhipo? I got to ask - how did you get that name?

  21. Gary says:

It was his name in a previous life-or its his spirit guide (or imaginary friend as they were called when I was a youngster).

SH- why I am getting a blue car coming through to me ………. and the letter ‘P’?

  22. Scruffyhippo says:

Hi gary and lemmy, (love motorhead btw) the name was one I picked back in 1999, when I first hit the online world with msn chat rooms, I had already tried greybeard and other such user names then msn suggested Scruffyhippo, it stuck and have used it ever since.
Gary, I see you have done a bit of research :)
Lemmy, no never tried the tea leaves and PG Tips tea bags don’t quite cut it :)

  23. Scruffyhippo says:

Oh and as a builder and carpenter you can imagine the stick I have taken over the years, so I’m used to it, but also looking forward to some interesting debates of course with you here :)

  24. Gary says:

    Research?

As if any psychic would do that.

I am only telling you what my spirit guide Yllotat Eslaf is telling me. He was a peruvian farmer in 14th Century and looks after me on my spiritual journey to bring the two worlds a little bit closer together.

    Why is Spain of significance?

  25. Gary says:

And Jo Parfitt- ’sharing what I know to make others grow’.

Have you ever worked in the Euston area of London??

    • Jo Parfitt says:

Indeed I have. I used to temp at Wolff Olins and Wollf Olins Smythe but many moons ago - they were opposite Euston Station! Like 1984! I also taught a few folks there how to use MultiMate Advantage if anyone remembers that. I’m more a Kings Cross kind of gal, because when in the UK I travel GNER from Peterborough.

  26. Gary says:

Why is a shelled sea creature of significance?

I have someone with me who claims to be ‘awake’? Does this make sense?

  27. Morgan says:

@Sarah…Just to answer you question I reside in the good old USA….Long Island, NY to be precise…….

    :)

  28. Scruffyhippo says:

I have to say it’s not hard to find info on me, I have been online 8 years using both my nick name and my real name and have many websites with info on, doesn’t take a lot of searching.

Also I don’t profess to be a medium, but a psychic clairvoyant, that is someone who work on an intuitive level with the subject or object in question, it’s two different things, if I has someone standing next to me it would more than likely be my wife asking if I was getting off the computer tonite :) (actually she is :0)

Hopefully I will get to explain more how a proper psychic works rather than the so called dodgy one’s but for now I need to appease my better half……..

  29. fab says:

WOW! So much thread here already, I didnt know there was a difference between a medium, psychic or clair however ya spell it!

  30. AngryFromEllesmerePort says:

Now we have a blog full of happy clappy people selling nonsense it should drag in a few more yanks with their primary school English and blog speak.
In a similar way to text speak why can’t people on the internet form sentences and use correct grammar?

    • Tomas says:

      Dear AngryFromEllesmerePort,
you are right, we are to talk appropriately because the usage of correct grammar reveals our real respect of other (that’s our self-respect)
The problem is just one - while you are reading in your native language, I’m writing in a language I didn’t hear around. We all enjoy the same aroma of the flowers, but most of my friends don’t understand a word in English. I am Lithuanian and grammar rules differ tremendously in our languages. Therefore I would greatly appreciate your concrete remarks on what was written harshly/offensively to your ear, I would be grateful for all your corrections of my writings.
Could you help me to talk in English better? I haven’t anybody other to address for the help.
      Thank you

  31. AngryFromEllesmerePort says:

    Scruffy Hippo
Glad to see your a ‘proper psychic’ - i’m a bit of a skeptic when it comes to all these types of things but you can convince me by giving me half of the $1 million that James Randi is offering to anyone who can prove that they have pyschic abilities.
I look forward to opening a bottle of vintage krug with the cash

    • Diane says:

Dear Angry, may I politely point out if you are keen on good grammar that you should have said ‘Glad to see that you’re a ‘proper psychic’……

Good to see another pedantic ‘Eats, Shoots and Leaves’ type on here! I get lonely!

  32. Rachel says:

Congratulations to all five, especially to mighty morgan!!! been her follower for quite some time=) And a wonderful idea as always, Jim & Emma!!!!

  33. aussiecynic says:

Congradulations all. And well chosen Flowers nice colleciton of buds you have there…..
I do love Scruffy site and a few new ones to check out…hmmm..
    good job
    AC

  34. Rachel says:

came back to say, great music! hehehe, i enjoyed it!~

  35. lemmyfrommotorhead says:

AngryfromEP - how bad do you feel now with Thomas’s answer?

Poor bloke only wants to smell his flowers on line and improve his english on he blog - I did play with the language translator down the right column and not sure how accurate it is.

  36. Good Scene you got going Jim! All the best to you Guys!

  37. Gary says:

    Well in Angry

the difference as I see it is that one sounds more legit than the other and also sounds more mystical thus allowing even less actual scientific basis upon which to be judged.

Scruffy- how do you intend to spend the share of the half mill?

I have a set of the worlds best healing crystals which you can have off me for that. They are made of prehistoric Elizabeth Duke zirconia and come in an authentic Argos ‘laminated book of dreams’ box.

Also why am I getting the feeling that you or someone you know or may have once met has a problem with some sort of food allergy?

I’m good at this psychic lark.

In fact for 10 quid I will contact any spirit anyone on here wants and make some stuff up about them- I specialise in elderly relatives. Whoever they are I can guarantee they

    1) are fine in the world of spirit
    2) died quite suddenly or after a long illness
    3) had a great sense of humour
    4) could be quite strong when they wanted
    5) want me to remind you of a trip out to the seaside

As I said, I’m good at this.

Hold on my spirit guide Yllatot Eslaf is calling apparently he said that the 26th of December has/had/may have some significance in future and travel involving either a place or person beginning or ending with the letter ‘a’ will come to fruition over the next 5 years.

    As ever, here to help.

  38. dubaidave says:

    Ouch!

  39. Jo Parfitt says:

Well, here I am. slightly hampered by a left leg in plaster, but still able to inspire expats to follow their career and publishing dreams. Today, I was running a workshop at the Outpost Archive Centre http://www.outpostarchive.com, a charity that collects expat social history. We were discussing how to be a global grandparent and had a great collection of global grannies and expat parents there. What an inspiring morning. The talk was recorded and will be incorporated into a book next year. Weird really as Jim and Em are in Dubai and the book’s publisher, Zodiac, is also in Dubai. Spooky.

I am honoured to be a founder inspirer and look forward to inspiring you all.

  40. sarah says:

Welcome Jo, where did your name come from and are you an expat? Just curious…

  41. AngryFromEllesmerePort says:

    Diane
You’re correct with the typng mstk i mad but incorrct wth the ‘Eats, shoots and Leaves’ comment. Unfortunately for some, i’ve been on the blog for a while, and will be until it’s finally taken over by Friend’s of the David Koresh Society. In the meantime i’ll allow myself some alcohol induced typing errors or grammatical mistakes, but at least i make an effort.
    Lemmy
I don’t feel bad at all. I congratulate Tomas on his English i can’t imagine what i’d be saying if i tried to speak/write Lithuanian, Brummie or any other foreign language.

The comment was directed at two groups of people

Those who we have a ’special relationship with’ - i.e. the nation that lead the west into the nonsense of a war in Iraq, all for the price of a barrel of oil - interesting how the private security company Blackwater has $800 million worth of Government contracts. It seems like they are the modern day Clanton gang. I will not even mention Halliburton’s contracts - ooops i have.
The second group of people alluded to are the tecchie nurds who sit at their computors in the dead of night trousers round their ankles with their left-handed mouse - get back to school and learn how to spell and construct good (or even reasonable) English and get a life

  42. AngryFromEllesmerePort says:

    Jo
I put my hands up and admit i’m guilty of following the path of apple juice handmade by archers this evening - but what on earth are you taking about? How about inspiring me to win the National lottery? Global grandparenting?
I may being simplistic here, but all i understand from your post is that you’ve broken your leg, some center is probably paying you a lot of money for giving a 30 min talk about some obtuse subject, and you’re going to make life easy by publishing the transcript of your talk.

  43. Gareth in China says:

It really is spooky that Jim N Em live in Dubai and also a publishers is based there, whooooooooo whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa whooooooooooooo

I’m not sure I should visit the page any more. Coincodences like that freak me out - two people living in the same densely populated area.

Its not the only thing that freaked me out either. Just yesterday I bought a fan for my office and when I looked at the base it had a label that said ‘Made in China’ my company also makes things in China - whooooooooooooooo - how spooky is that?

  44. AngryFromEllesmerePort says:

This really is a weird world not only have i been to Kings Cross, Euston, Paddington and St Pancreas but i’ve also passed Go and been to Jail.
Coincidently i’ve also been to Dubai and have a sign of the Zodiac. Finally yesterday i was archiving a workpost at a centre workshop when someone recorded me
    Wooooo

  45. Gary says:

Heres another weird unexplained thing that happened to me.

The other day I met someone who had not only the same first name as me but also the same initials. They also ‘quite liked football’, drank lager and smoked.

    It was uncanny.

Such amazing parallel universe stuff blows scientific theory apart.

I am still trying to fathom it out. I will check my horoscope today for advice as they are ALWAYS very specific and personalised to me.

After that I will phone a tarot line up- or maybe go and have my cards read- again its all really specific stuff that could only apply to me.

The paranormal is amazing and totally proven 100%.

Now can anyone lend me 20 quid I need to go and buy some more rocks.
