Go Smell on Rome…

August 8th, 2007 by Jim

Roam! Roam! Rome?  Our fellow blogger at Roam to Rome has put together a beautiful site all about her preparations to move to Rome and continue studying to be a doctor.  If you love compelling music and eye-catching sites head over to her site for a daily dose of Rome

Ballons!  Trevi Fountain Night

Our fellow blogger is so excited about her move that she’s already packed!  She doesn’t even go to Rome for 2 months yet.  Have you ever been so excited about a trip?

Why thank you! :) :)

Hehe, this made me giggle… yes, my luggages are packed already and I didn’t realize how that sounded! I expected to be in Rome this month, but need 2 more little months here in the San Francisco Bay :)

Hey, I read that you are also coming to Italy in October, is that a move too???

Ciao e a presto

Hi, it’s been a habit to pack early. For me, it’s one month ahead. I find I am always forgetting a little something or other. So, as I remember, I throw it into the travel bag. By the time, the trip is due, I should be really, fully packed with everything I need.

Italy is still on my list of places to visit. I can smell an easy jet weekend coming on.

After taking well over 1000 flights the gloss and excitement wore off a long, long time ago. Even early on I packed the hour before leaving. If you pack early you end up doing it 8 times as the thing you packed at the bottom of your case seems to be needed no sooner than you closed the case.
For instance I leave for Beijing tomorrow night for a flight to England on Friday. My packing will be done Thursday morning before going to work.

Ladies,
See if you can check in online. It doesn’t tend to save time at the airport but you can choose your seat on the plane. This is important if you fly economy/coach. If you check in online you can have the seat near the bulhead with maximum leg space, you can then use your hand luggage as a foot rest and hey presto, poor mans business class.
Unfortunately they still have no way of predicting (and therefore avoiding)where the screaming baby, boring weirdo person, way too fat and sweating person or over exuberant ‘excited by my trip’ person will be sitting. However I suspect you might be the one fullfilling the last role I mentioned.

Is Italy as romantic as folks say it is? Venice is a tourist trap, right?

Prior to getting off a ‘conspiracy to import’ charge at the old bailey I packed all my belongings away a week before potentially going away.

Luckily the great British justice system cancelled my holiday.

I tend to pack the night before. Although there was one time I went to spain and didn’t get home from a night on the lash until 20 minutes before the cab was picking us up from the airport. Needless to say I packed better in that time period than I ever had. So my advice?

Leave it to the last minute and pack while bladdered/high.

I’m on the plane Friday morning to England.
My family have been away for 6 weeks so i can confidently say my sacks are well and truly packed.
Looking forward to seeing my beautiful wife, to un-pack my sacks!

Rome is one of my most favorite places in the world but as with all my holidays in the past, it was rush, rush, rush because I needed to get back to work. I hope to revisit Rome again but this time, sans notebook, sans blackberry. Venice is touristy but worth visiting, only don’t go during peak season (I think Jun-Aug). I was there during the heatwave - its not romantic doing the gondola ride under the hot sun!

Well, I can’t say I’ve ever been exciter to go on a trip. It’s mainly because it’s my mom who plans everything and most of the times, I end up going to places where I don’t really wanna go… Anyway, Rome is one of the places I really wanna go. Is it as fantastic as they say it is?

Being honest its well overrated.

Seriously.

Very downmarket.

Over-priced.

Full of tourists.

I’d rather go for a week in Lozells. In a klansmans uniform.

Italy is OK but watch out for hairy mediteranean types on scooters shouting ‘lucky lucky’ at least thats what it sounded like they were shouting to a group of girls I was with.
I prefer the North of Italy around Turin for skiing, Milan for shops and lake Como and Trieste for a peaceful spot on the Adriatic coast - also a good place to begin a sojourn into Slovenia which is more beautiful than Italy and much easier on the wallet.
Rome is pretty expensive, watch out for an old German duffer in a white dress, anyone would think he owned the place, closing roads, riding around in a glass topped car like lord muck, but I know he’s not all that - even our IT guy gets more action than he does.

Angry,
I’m off to the London Friday but my lass is staying in China, I actually unpacked before travelling, many times last night and again this morning, left the contents all over the bedroom - always like to be different.

Gary how cynical are you?

Try the Italian district in NYC - not what it was but the best Pizzas.

Have you been?

yup

spring street/mulberry/mott

Love it there absolutely love it.

Best Pizza’s?

Lombardi’s in Little Italy
Grimaldi’s in Brooklyn
Jons in Midtown

And if being honest and not wanting a fellow human to go on a holiday they will regret for the rest of their lives makes me a cynic then hey call me Mr Cynic on the 422 Cynic Express to Cynic City, Cynicsville, South Cynic.

Other things I liked about Little Italy - Umberto’s Clam House- tourist trap but I was a tourist and the Coffee. The Gellato was ace also. Nobody does cold meats like Italian American.
