Over rated but arguably the most popular sporting icon in the world today.
Enough about Posh - onto David.
If the Yanks where going to ‘get’ football they would have done it by now, I mean they had the world cup in 1994 (where we saw the classic moment when they introduced ‘ladies and gentlemen Miss Diana Ross’, however she saw it as an instruction and missed the goal).
I doubt Beckham and Olive Oil will swing it into the national consciousness. Not their fault, thats just the way it is.
By the way if you raise the bar you have the beginings of a much better sport, Rugby.
The only chance the Americans will really follow soccer is if you cange the scoring system - 3 points for a corner, 5 for a goal (GET IT THE HOLE) and follow some of that 98-97 nail biting basketball type finishes.
Brand Beckham is about Brand Beckham, soccer is secondary.
Doubt Cricket will be making inroads over there either. Play for five days without a winner? They really don’t understand that one.
I sure hope soccer gets some attention over here in the U.S. I am an ultra soccer fan and I stand alone among all my friends. It could be in my genes, my parents are Dutch…the House of Orange. When we were there during World Cup, people actually painted the fronts of their houses orange. Can you imagine that devotion in the U.S.? Nah.
