Go Smell What You Eat?

September 5th, 2008 by Funkygirl012003

It seems over here in my neck of the woods that there really is no temptation to eat bad foods, because it’s just a part of the culture.  We eat pizza, tacos, deep fried carnie confections and more on a daily basis because it’s there and it’s good.  Did I mention it’s good?

Of late though, I’ve been overdoing the eating of bad foods thing.  I just don’t seem to realize until it’s too late that I’ve overdone it and my stomach is periously close to rejecting those tasty treats.

I’m going to make a concious effort to eat more veggies and less swill for a while to see if that improves the way I feel.  Have you noticed a direct coorelation to the way you feel what you’ve eaten or in the case of some flower smellers detoxed from your systems?

We’re not bad people, we just eat bad things.

Good for you and I hope you are able to keep that goal. I definitely notice the difference espcially since I generally try to eat healthy. I feel lethargic, my stomach feels heavy or has pain, sometimes it gets rejected out the back end in uncomfortable ways and just general malaise. Generally, my stomach is upset enough where I don’t feel like eating much the next day.

I know what you mean. We have a rather inappropriate for mixed company nickname for that kind of ‘fiery’ experience.

Welcome back funkygirl and your food posts are a welcome treat here!

Jim here - Hope you had a great summer. After detox one has to get back into the swing of the norm and give the body a chance to be able to take onboard and process a variety of modern day foods.

Personally, eating heavy and late really takes it out of me as my body works hard to process the food - anything past 8pm and I feel it. A one day fast (water / apples) works wonders if you’re feeling heavy by the way.

Honestly - a decent homemade pizza cooked from the heart, devoured with passion and eaten with friends can beat a lonesome bag of bean sprouts.

Variety is the spice - all in moderation :-)

Well thats the idea… when indulging increase the water intake and try not to eat past 8pm but most of all - don’t regret it - save us a bit!

Yes, yes, yes on the water!!!! The latest recommendation from a physician friend is to take your weight and divide it in half and that is the number of ounces that your body needs for a day, but it also includes other fluids including ones in foods. Sorry, I have no idea how this converts to the metric system…heck I can’t convert metric into anything that makes sense…this is how I figure it out, “Sweetie, Mr. Engi-nerd…I need your help!!”

Oh Funky what have been doing to yourself…
I love good pizza, Nachos, KFC and maacas…
years ago we lived right in the middle of several junk food places within easy walking…
one of these was a speciality ice cream and homemade chocolates and lollies…
we would go around twice a week at least…
ended putting on 2 stone in weight, no energy, constantly tired, cranky, loss of interest in everything .. you get the idea.
then one day I couldnt get into my fave jeans and realised what I was doing…
it tood about 4 months I lost the extra weight by changing my diet to salads and homemade foods, then went one step further to organic where possible and the moods changed, my energy level improved and my general well being improved….
when I reasearched what I was eating and after the shock and discussed left me I realised it wasnt the food so much as the chemicals hidden in them that was the problem….
these days I eat junk food as a treat every so often and eat white bread sparingly and feel much better for it…
every once and a while I feel is fine, but not constantly or you will notice after a while problems arrising….

I keep meaning to make the switch to whole wheat foods, but they always taste a little grainy to me. I think I’ll have better luck switching to whole grain cereals.

I’ve started taking on more water (gosh i sound like a puffing old steam train - well the first part might be true!!) at work as i could sit all day and it really wouldn’t bother me if i didn’t have a drink.

I could walk all day in hot weather and not bother with a drink - i’d be interested to see how i faired in one of those stranded in the desert scenarios.

However, the only difference i’ve noticed as a consequence of all these trips to the watercooler is an equal amount of trips to the toilet. Now I can’t drink past 8.30pm otherwise i’;m getting up in the night - and i likes me sleep i does.

At the beginning, you will need to use the restroom much more frequently. However, as your body gets used to the change you will gradually need to go less often, but still more than what you were doing. As you age, it is also normal to need to go more frequently, but if it is a significant difference without any changes in habits it could signal other medical problems like diabetes as one example. I try to stop drinking, but I then needed AA (oop, another story…just kidding), at least two hours before going to bed. If you feel thirsty, then you have waited too long…it means you are already dehydrated. So, here’s to more stuff you didn’t want to know.

Sometimes, I can be forgetful to drink plain water. Even if I don’t drink water for long hours, why do I still have to go to the restroom?

Because we have other fluids that we take in and that are in the digestive tract that come out the same way. Just think about the saliva that we swallow all the time.

I notice when I have eaten too many carbs and sugars that I get lethargic. I seem to have more energy when I eat lite and not have big meals. Junk food also makes me feel bloated… not a good feeling. Everything in moderation is good… just don’t overdo it on the heavier meals!

Ange

this could be because when you eat moderately the body is more able to process the nutrients and use them more efficiently, the body has to work much harder to process mega calories- so moderate and often is better for the body
