Go Smell the Guerilla Flowers!

Posted on September 5th, 2008 by A/C

The New Public Enemy #1 BEWARE!

Neighbourhoods have gone mad, the Little Old Lady up the road could actually be a Guerilla Flower Smeller, that mild manner bloke up the road, who you see every Sunday in the Garden is a criminal and a law breaker…..

These people may belong to a secret movement, they are the people you least expect and just to top it off you could be one and dont even know it…..

Well the beleive it not this relatively new movement, which is growing on a global scale, has infiltrated many well known places such asLondon, Berlin, Brisbane, Sydney and many others.  This group travels around these cities surveying buildings, traffic islands, medium strips, plain open spaces, footpaths even and making notes as they travel, then in the dead of night they strike like a well oils machine, the area never new what hit it, the police appear to be powerless to stop them.

So who are they?

What are they doing?

Why arent the authorities taking matters in hand?

All excellent questions and we the public should be screaming at our police and local MP’s this must STOP!

Well in true Flower Smeller style, the Criminals are Gardeners, Yes your local hobby gardener down the street could be one of these criminals acting with group of other law breakers.

In the wee small hours of the evening under the cover darkness, they commit the ultimate sin and hanis crime against the city they are living… They are planting out gardens in otherwise boring places, places which are left untouched by councils…

How dare these people spend their own money and time in some vain attempt to beautify our citys, medium strips, traffic islands, footpaths etc… I mean really what are they thinking. These people must be stopped in their tracks, we cant have groups of middle aged and elderly people running around at night, plant gardens willy nilly..

My Goodness what will be next, looking after Perigan Falcons and viewing them via webcams….

Your thoughts required.. and are you a Guerilla Gardener do tell…

So this is how illegal immigrants spend their free time when not working for ‘the man.’ You’d figure they’d be out having a sixth or seventh kid or something.

Are you aure its not the google map vans that drive around mapping everything AC?

  3. Such an appropriate video for GSTF. It sounds like there has not been any problems with legal issues. So far, people like it. I love it. I’ve heard about it happening in the US and I think that it is great. They will also continue to care for them. However, this is the US and living in Southern California eventually someone will sue…they always sue out here. (Grrrr). I think that it is a beautiful thing.

I wonder what others would be inspired to do in the darkness of night using their own resources? Ooooo, a Forum topic. Shall I? Hmmm.

    I think this is great

I would also love to see what would happen if it ever went to court

’so you all got up and out of your own pockets made gardens look much nicer……. erm…….’

    good work all round

Can i play devils advocate here - what if they cause an accident by accidently stepping back out into a busy road in the dark? what if what they plant grows high and obscures a drivers vision at a junction? what if someone slips on a piece of leftover vegetation?

The local councils would be responsible which is why i suspect its illegal.

    On the other hand……………….

    we’re all flower smellers here………………..

and i love seeing bright blooms and neatly planted areas where otherwise is dullness. so you go guys and gals - your efforts are appreciated.

of course if you feel like a little private project, then my back garden ain’t going to win any best kept roundabouts awards so feel free - i’ll leave the gate open and a selection of tools outside.

p.s Urban would probably say something along the lines of “great - something for my monster truck tyres to bite on as i take a short cut” lol

So, they dig up the neglected areas to plant flowers and it is a crime? Hm.. no one comes up with such a suggestion in my place but I think this will help my government to save money on ‘beautifying’ the cities with plants and flowers. At least someone is willing to do it rather than leaving the job to the old and lazy government gardeners.. On the other hand, it might not be good because not many people appreciate flowers on the streets or ‘neglected areas’..
