Go! Read Something!
August 13th, 2008 by Blue Collar Goddess
Five years of Internet publishing (and one excellent print venture) — we’ve never gone more than a couple of days late.
This time around, we went a full ten days past deadline – and if we were getting paid a tidy sum (or any sum at all) we would have been fired.
This Internet zine of mine was started some years ago partially due to the publication I wrote for closing it’s doors, stopping the presses and leaving me feeling unfinished. I had written inspirational & motivational articles as “The Irreverent Reverend” (you didn’t know I had a degree in theology & a ministerial license, didya?) and I needed an outlet. What started as a small endeavor has ended up becoming a full time gig.
Here’s the secret no one else knows … shhhh …we really went late because I’m the production editor and my daily life truly does interfere with the cyberspace form I inhabit on the net. 24 hours in a day just isn’t enough. If ONLY I didn’t HAVE to sleep, yanno? How I wish I could find a way to make a living doing what I do best.
Which brings me to my truest point besides announcing the most recent edition — what is your passion? And what would you do simply because it brings you satisfaction, joy, and a sense of accomplishment?
You know mine. Go read the latest issue of The Hiss Quarterly — hey man, it’s free!

Provided I had the license and all, I would want to provide low-no cost psychotherapy/life coaching/teaching/training to people who have and who work with peole with developmental disabilities and begin a counseling/support ministry at my church, but it would be open to anyone.
You too into Universal Life church then eh?
Oh, bugger! Is that a personal attack I just made?
Damn, that’s Sterile Pig’s prerogative.
Exactly, Mrs I Would Like To Rule, can’t think of any original stance of your own, so copy good old FF’s eh.
No, Dictator, not universal life, but it would have a distinctly Christian focus, not pushy but not universal. I want to see the church meet needs of everyone Christian or non which is what we are called to do.
FF, it may not be an original idea to you; however, this has been a vision of mine for 23 years and I have been involved in some of the programs that I would eventually like to bring into my own Christian church.
I was reading the comments in my mail …
Got really confused.
Sterile Pig?
Dictatorship?
I had to return to the comments proper simply to get it all straight!
So many names, so little time.
Clinically Clueless, my comment was aimed at Mrs Desperate To Rule, was not making any reference to your church, or your activities.
Got it, but it wasn’t clear as my comment was the only one at the time. Thanks for the clarification. I was ready to take you on…LOL!!
A little over a year ago I finally found the courage within me to admit to myself that the life I was living was very far removed from the life I wanted to live. I took some huge leaps of faith in relation to changing my life and in the end discovered what my passion in life is. Funny enough I am fortunate enough to be doing what I love. I love to write and I also love to help others that have struggled through some of the same challenges in life that I have encountered….and I get to do both everyday in so many other ways then I had originally ever though possible.
Mighty Morgans last blog post..Michael’s House
Mighty, I dunno about the writing bit, but it seems to me you have been helping others with similar challenges as you once had for a lonnng time now, no??
I love to write and read. My wish is that I could spend my time reading and writing while at the same time earning income rather than getting stuck in the office and not knowing why I stay there. Somehow I managed to achieve my wish, after almost 4 years dreaming about it..
Sarahs last blog post..Friendship Quote
Perseverance eh? Good for ya girl!
Share with us some, what do you like writing about?
The hiss 1/4ly - before we download do tell - why the title the Hiss and what is your dream with it?
Can GSTF help?
Doesn’t sound to me like the title owner needs help. It’s just a great title, that’s all.
I’ve not downloaded it, probably won’t do, can’t be arsed, you know how it is, or perhaps not.
But what I don’t understand is why you feel the need to proffer help, that sounds to me like you need help, you need to be needed, right?
Hey!! Look what the cat dragged in!!!
Just kidding!
So you’re back Nemo! Kicking controversy as usual the minute you swim in eh!
Cats? Cats? Controversy? What?
And when and how did you return BJ?
There you see, it is all questions, questions and more repetition. But here’s another one (question that is): I thought you’d given this blog up for good?
it would appear she hasn’t ff. welcome back Bridget
Sterile Pig, I’m confused - which is bad for my Dictatorship as you can imagine. So un-confuse me here.
Here’s the confusing matter:
You clearly are no mates with the French Bird, I saw you having a dig at her elsewhere as well.
Being intrigued by the whole proceedings, I have searched previous posts but couldn’t find any where the French Bird said she was giving up the blog for good.
You, on the other hand, speak with authority, like it was a given she said that.
I can only assume she said it off-blog.
My confusion is: So, how do YOU know this eh…? I doubt the French Bird confides in you off-line does she…?
FISHY FISHY FISHY….
Is there a traitor in the ranks? Flush out the snitch. Hang him high.
And my Dictatorship reigns supreme.
Mrs I Would Like To Rule, I don’t feel the need to do extensive research - unlike yourself however - that seems a little too close to obsessive, bunny-boiling, personality traits to me. However the French Bird, as you call her, did say she was quitting never to return as I recall.
Glad she did though
Ohlala! Bridget seems to be causing quite a commotion!!
Huh? I said I’d never ever come back?? That’s news for me ha!
Happy to acknowledge I must have misread your exit!
Welcome back BJ!
Thank you
**Applause**
No downloading necessary, it’s an online journal — this latest issue isn’t what I’d consider to be one of our best, but I recommend at least a breeze through!
Ok we’re there!
The Hiss Quarterly is an online journal … follow the linky goodness!
*thinks*
Help? Humn … I could use a publishing contract so I can pay my contributors, go to print with a decent distribution package and pay myself to stay at home while creating the quality ezine The Hiss Quarterly has become over the last five years!
Do go take a look!
Ok lost in translating..
what is the HISS???
satisfaction.. gained dont know… I just do what I do..
Do you think I am in a RUT..
Oh God I hope not…
CRAP I AM IN A RUT>>>>>>>
ARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
The Hiss Quarterly is an online journal. You don’t have to download it to read it, just follow the linky goodness.
BTW, yer not in a rut, you’ve simply misplaced your four wheel drive capacity. Find that bugger, and it’s all good!
(How’s that for an analogy, eh?)
oh I do like that one…
I love analogies…. and metaphores… lol
the unfortunate part of it .. is my 4wd is in the driveway…… ready to go…..
hmmmmmm..
Yo Rufus!
Long time! Bridget wasn’t sure about ‘Blue Collar Goddess’, but the sec she read ‘yano’, she knew it was you!
Will defo check out The Hiss.
Hmmm.. as to Bridget’s passion… er.. does having lots of them, and changing all the time, count?!
I’m the type who gets bored with routine fast, so nothing much can hope to keep my attention for an indefinite amount of time!! I need constant thrills and twists and turns to keep the passion alive ha!
Shall we maybe simplify and say all things passionate fuels my passion..?
Diversity rules! Here’s to loving all things passionate and being passionate for the sake of being passionate! I LOVE THAT! To me, it just represents how much you love life! HUZZAH!
Ooooh, do you really have a degree in Theology & a ministerial licence?
Why pray tell? And what kind of subjects do you study?
Yes, I really do have about … ah … two degrees in Theology. One formal and one informal.
I obtained my ministerial license at the tender age of 18 to piss off my Bishop — I answered an ad in the back of a Rolling Stone Magazine, wrote my “essay” (they required a written essay back then, along with a $15 fee) and some weeks later, got a certificate in the mail from the Universal Life Church —> LINK!
http://www.themonastery.org/
And began running my own “church” services — ANYONE can obtain their license online FOR FREE now, and I recommend that everyone go do it immediately.
We should all be ordained!
yeah c’mon blue collar goddess
me and a mate registered on line a couple of years ago to become ministers.
I think my comment got lost in the “mail” — I posted a link in it, to the ULC website … but here’s what I said:
I obtained my ministerial license when I was 18 to “piss off” my Bishop.
I answered an ad in the back of a magazine, sent in my “essay” and my $15 bucks, and a few weeks later got a license in the mail for all things Evangelical.
Indeed, it was with the Universal Life Church!
As for my degrees, one is informal and one is formal. However, when I “grow up”, I want to be Acharya S.
LOL! =)
I try to stay on top of the idea that a belief is something you hold in your head, faith is what is held in the heart.
It’s released and for some reason was in SPAM - possibly becuase of the link,
anyway you’re free now, free as a bird!
We subscribed to the Hiss…
Worth a look folks!
AWESOMENESS!
Woot!
