Smell 08.08 on 08.08.2008

August 8th, 2008 by Jim

Did anyone catch the opening ceremony of the 29th Olympics earlier today at 08.08 a.m on 08.08.2008? Two travelling Americans have been looking forward to the event:

YouTube Preview Image

As have google:

As the official opening ceremony website gets busier we wonder if the masses of people tuning in will do the same or will they drop off as the events GO! on.

Will you be tuning into the 2008 Olympics? Any events you’ll be paying particular attention to and will the games proceed without any more political hiccups? Do tell!

Thanks for sharing the video. It was really well done. I loved seeing the architecture of the new buildings. I just might “steal” the video for my blog.

I will probably watch some of the gymnastics and swimming.

Steal away - just don’t let the authorities see!

That would be one experience I haven’t had is getting in trouble with law enforcement. I don’t count my one and only ticket that I earned 22 years ago for “speeding.” I was going a bit faster than normal in congested traffic because I left work late (runaway shelter) to go pick a friend up for a church retreat. How much more wholesome does it get! However, my life was never boring!

Not so interested in Olympics anyway but I do know that today as of 08.08.08 (now it is 09.08.08), there were many couples getting married.

Seriously I wish all our Athletes the very best of luck in their chosen sport (UK). My olympic watching era was Steve Redgrave etc but no doubt we’ll tune in in between photo gift orders.

Lets hope it all goes without any nasty surprises or disasters and that the games are remembered for the sporting achievements of the participants and not any other reason.

C’mon GB - only 4 years to go and I don;t see any turf being cut yet.

Yes, let’s hope these games though controversial before starting will go well in China with a minimum of problems.

Chinese reckon they’re gonna test 40% of the athletes, more than ever before.
I watched some of the women’s weightlifting this morning. The gold medalist had a particularly good snatch

Moppet guilted us into watching the opening ceremony…
It was beautiful to watch, but I must admit to not getting it….
Perhaps it was the translation or lack of it… I have no idea…
One thing it has shown me if nothing else is how little we understand about this country and culture

I have to say is cracking

I watched a bit yesterday

I am enjoying the boxing and the judo. the gymnastics is pretty good too.

All I am hoping is the Chinese government don’t let us down and give any protestors a proper pasting. seriously I have always rated the chinese as having nuts police- well here is there chance to step up to the plate and show the world. I want batons, dogs, water cannons, and hippies to be dragged off and given a decent lesson in chinese hospitality. Come on china those protestors are calling you a puff!

I am partial to a bit of diving myself.

Often after diving my face will be absolutely dripping. I can also hold my breath for minutes at a time which helps with this discipline. I am also fairly good with rings. And I quite like a long jump.

Bridget

nice to see you back

but please must you break everything down into the physical form?

I find such behaviour shallow. After all I watch the womens beach volleyball due to the skill levels………..
