Hi Jim and Em - didn’t like to click earlier in case it was a spammy link.

cue Vikings and the spam song…….I suppose spam is as much a part of online life as popups. I had a friend on the other day complaining of the amount he was getting - around 20 a day after our junk filters have removed 95% of it first - i said that best thing to do was train his junk folder but keep an eye for any real ones that went by mistake.

Myself, i got 142 spam/junk emails yesterday ranging from Google accounts to viagra, letters from embassies to big prize wins….. even one about train times!!! (lol - how bizarre).

The links look genuine but mouseover the link and see where its really sending you reveals some great URL’s - 10 out of 10 on creativiity.

No never been scammed but picked up a virus that kept shutting down browser and ended up reformatting my windows machine (there’s a blog post about it somewhere).

“I’ll have her Spam - I love it ” “you mean you want spam egg beans and spam with extra spam?”……

I find that any email that asks for information from me is usually spam. I get them from my bank, Ebay, every other bank in the world, my service provider, drug offers, fake jewelry and of course the solicitors who want to pay me millions.

I accept the ones who get sent to my spam box that are genuine into my safe senders list and block the domain or at least the sender from the real spam.

I also send the really obvious ones like Ebay to their spoof email address as they really want to shut these spammers down and have resources to do it.

  3. I would run, not walk, as far away from that thing as I could.

When doing business 20 years ago, we received LOTS of paper mails (mostly from Nigeria, sad to say) with all kinds of approaches.

For some time I even collected them, because they were somehow really crazy and innovative in their kind of energy.

Now these things come per email. From whoever, whatever, whenever and
end up right away in the basket.

    To compare it:

Maybe like the president or top politician, head of state of your country,
writing you a letter in which he/she confesses,
that he/she has been cheating the voters,
    and suggests now,
    that you become president.

Sorry to disappoint but I also won 1,250,000 or something like it …
    IN the YAHOO DRAW…
I wish but yep it is spam..
Great for ID theft, and loads of hassles, I recieve so many of these that if it they where real I would have more money than Bill Gates… heheheheh.. but it is nice to dream
I have sent my Email to Yahoo… thats about it… this happens so often these days and the warnings are so regular that anyone who does get caught only has themselves to blame really.. people get told all the time, from the lottery offices, to the banks, and everything in between common sense must be out there somewhere I dont think he dies completely but has gone into hiding for a while.. :)

  6. That would go into the shredder in my home. I receive tons of Spam on my main email account. Mostly for Viagra and sex enhancement medications, Canadian medications, medications in general and the ocassional Windows or bank ones. Since we don’t pay bills online, I just delete them, but some are really questionable. Then, I ask my husband who usually keeps up with these things. Last, effort call our bank or whatever ourselves. So far, we’ve been lucky, but I hate receiving spam.

  7. Oh, funny story on spam. You know how they often have the click here if you no longer want to receive these emails which only verifies the address, so you receive more. A friend of mine were working together and I heard her complaining. She was receiving about 100 or more a day. Then, she made a comment, “I keep clickings, so I don’t receive them.” Before the situation was somewhat remedied, she was receiving well over 200. When she made the comment, everyone one in the cubes around us went, “Oh Teresa…you have!!” It took three months or more for out very competent (note scarcastic tone) to even take a look, then he said just delete them and walked away. Our manager, had a little discussion with his manager…problem fixed.

I would forward that email to someone who owes me money. I figure, if I can’t get my cash back, they should lose theirs due to sheer gullibility.

I did recieve this email. The first thing I did was Google it. Google would have a press release or something stating all this. I have a gmail account and a yahoo account. It never hit my gmail. Google spam that’s not from google gets deleted before it hits the spam box or at least that’s how my gmail seems to work. Yahoo on the other hand doesn’t seem to detect it unless you mark it as spam.

    I normally ignore these

however when the son f a nigerian former head of the army who died in a plane crash contacted me DIRECTLY- I felt I had to help.

Its been a ticky process with the fees required but I ave now given him my bank details so he can transer the money to me. I’m going to donate most of it to charity
