GO & be outsourced!

June 16th, 2008 by Jim

As we’ve added a ‘Movie’ category here at GO! Smell the flowers we’d like to share a recent inflight movie we watched called outsourced Well worth a watch!

An American call centre Manager is told to pack his bags, fly to Mumbai and train the native Indians to be convincing Americans over the phone.

It changes his life! We’d love both American and Indian opinions on the future of outsourcing or is it ‘best’ sourcing? Do tell, Visas are optional.

Never heard of it, but I live in a cave. It sounds like a fun movie. Thanks for sharing it.

Outscourcing seems to be cyclical, especially when you are talking about the Shared Service Centre business model.

A lot of companies over the last few years have opted to effectively outsource their Human Resources or Finance depts into a shared service centre (mostly within the UK though) but increasingly they are being brought back in house as disgruntlement sets in.

I think the same will happen with call centres eventually. It will prove ultimately to be too costly an exercise.

Personally I would rather speak to an agent in a foreign country who, for the most part, are diligent, customer care driven and relatively intelligent rather than the absolute muppets they employ over here.

A fair ppint Lib - Empathy with the customer is KING but can someone in India relate to someone in the US who has ordered a set of rollerblades, for example?

Why wouldn’t they, its a set of rollerblades for God’s sake. India is not on Mars.
Generally anyone having a problem with where a person is from at a call centre is down to preconceived prejudice. Never had an ounce of bother myself, unlike the British in the Beijing embassy, single handed solo sex fiends the lot of them.

We have huge arguements down here about companies outsourcing jobs… banks, phone companies etc… most people who object do so not because the person is from this country or that, but normally because the company sacked it workers here to employ people cheaper there… business and all that
but what really gets our goat is when they tell us they are calling from Brisbane OLD or Sydney NSW when they clearly are not…. I get phone company calls from India and other Asian countries which as a rule does not bother me, but we have only one phone service provider for land line and mobiles… so some guy calls from Optus, Vodaphone, Bransons company or other rings at like 10.30pm to tell me about their service I tell them I can not use it because they arent here (no service), they then continue to try and sell me a service through a company which I can not use and then say that I am wrong they have the greatest coverage, then I tell them to check and spend another 20 mins with the same old thing it goes on and on until either I hang up or they check their map, so these days I hang up… simply cant be bothered… no disrespect to any country etc but give me break…..

Why bother entertaining them? I get calls from the Far East offering investment services - they’re off the line within 10 seconds

they are these days…..
I tell them not interested and when they continue I hang up….
But I did think for a while that I was costing them a fortune by keeping them on the line then learned otherwise…..
so irritating…
the record for these calls is 39 in 4 days…..

in fairness its not just one way traffic

while we outsource telecoms etc thye indians have imported honour killings to the UK.

I know that may seem harsh but at least their women know their place.

as the joke goes ‘what do you call a disobedient indian woman?’

‘Miss Sing Bi Li Vedead’
