What photograhers say in other countries to coax a smile:
Korea:”Kimchi” (pickled cabbage)
Japan: Whiskey
Spain: “Patata” (potato)
Czech Republic: “Fax”
China: :”Qiezi” (Eggplant)
Sweden: “Omelet”
Found in : “Vital Statistics” by Paul Grobman
Thank you for making me smile today after reading all of your lovely posts. I look forward to many more:}
I’ve read about that. Why ‘eggplant’ though? Perhaps because it’s a funny veggie.
FG,
Its due to the pronounciation - much like we say cheeeeeeeese because it forces our mouth to smile, so the Chinese for Aubergine,
qie zi, would be pronounced ‘cheeea tser’ with the ‘qie’ being pronounced with the second of the four Chinese tones. The second tone is a rising tone, thus forcing a smile, a ‘q’ in pin yin is pronounced ‘ch’ (although one or two regional accents pronounce it ‘chey zi’)
Ref http://www.chinese-outpost.com/language/pronunciation/tones-of-mandarin-chinese.asp for more on the tones used in Chinese, they are bloody difficult for us Westerners and getting the wrong tone can mean something totally different and has got me in trouble many times!

Hi J and thanks for your input here at GO! Smell the flowers…
A real flower smeller! Welcome.
I found these little beauts today…

Rule Brittania… is the catch cry…
No dig intended just thought they were funny….
* 3 Brits die each year testing if a 9v battery works on their tongue.
* 142 Brits were injured in 1999 by not removing all pins from new shirts.
* 58 Brits are injured each year by using sharp knives instead of screwdrivers.
* 31 Brits have died since 1996 by watering their Christmas tree while the fairy lights were plugged in.
* 19 Brits have died in the last 3 years believing that Christmas decorations were chocolate..
* British Hospitals reported 4 broken arms last year after cracker pulling accidents.
* 101 people since 1999 have had broken parts of plastic toys pulled out of the soles of their feet.
* 18 Brits had serious burns in 2000 trying on a new jumper with a lit cigarette in their mouth.
* A massive 543 Brits were admitted to A&E in the last two years after opening bottles of beer with their teeth.
* 5 Brits were injured last year in accidents involving out of control Scalextric cars.
and finally………
* In 2000 eight Brits cracked their skull whilst throwing up into the toilet.

I hate the little pins in shirts. They’re like nasty little surprises the angry store clerk left in the shirt for you.
I know and you can never get all them… even when you count them out… there is always hiding.. just to bite you..
:p

LOL with the Scalex stat - scary stuff!
Hi Aussie - us Brits! You’ve got to love us really.
One of my favourite statistics (although i can’t actually remember the number) is the amount of people that put down Jedi on the faith question on job applications…..
I wonder if they were applying for the role of the …………………… apprentice?
Jonathan.

Yep, big jump, but statistics can be confusing & need to be fully defined to be of use.
There maybe a heavy metal link (just look at Ozzy Osbourne), but may be a simpler explanation such as change in criteria to diagnose autism or even an increase in awareness of autistic symptoms amongst clinicians.
I meant “Autism.” Too much Chardonnay. (Did I spell THAT right?)
Empress Nightshade’s last blog post..Facing Death Today
LOL and good for you with the Autism drive Empress!
I found this neat site which gives real time stats http://www.worldometers.info/
It actually updates in front of your eyes… that is to say, the numbers increase as you watch it! Fascinating.
Buzzing with Ange’s last blog post..Speak Now Before It Is Too Late
Ange,

34C-22-33.
I believe 89% of men find this is very acceptable, the other 11% are Elton’s friends.

I beg to differ. There are men who love full-figured bodies only. They are called FAs or Fat Admirers. Me being rotund myself find this to be so very fascinating.
