But aren’t cousins treated just like your siblings among Christian families? I thought maybe that was a religious thing. Yes you are right, marriages among cousins lead to a number of genetic diseases. Thalassemia has become a major problem here in the UAE & one of the main reasons is marriage among cousins. Now what the government has done is that they have made pre-marital medical check ups mandatory for both the partners before the marriage can be registered.

The US car cost vs Columbus making 3x return trips may well be true in numerical values, but must be complete bobbins when inflation & the true cost is determined.

& I’m no snail expert but even the 3yrs of snail ’sleep’ is debateable - they may be able to enter a form of temporal stasis, similar to mammalian hibernation, but to define this as sleep would be stretching the definition.

With such fact spoiling on the boil, can we open a Viz style Pedants’ Corner? Though I know there was fierce discussion for years on the correct title for such a place: Pedant’s Corner, Pedantic Corner, Corner of Pedantry, etc., blah. Fascinating stuff. Do I win £5?

If I am not wrong, Einstien was a Jew & Darwin a Christian. I have heard that cousin marriages are not allowed in Christianity & I believe Darwin was a religious man. At least his beard gives that impression. I am just curious, is it Christianity that prohibits cousin marriages or has it something to do with culture?
