Older = serious?

April 3rd, 2008 by Jim

So as we grow older, possibly wiser and certainly less likely to enjoy our reflection in well-lit department store changing room - does life become more ‘ serious’ than it was back in childhood? More status, more responsibility and more frowns?

We still try and keep the child alive in us, even when it’s not April fools day and love turning frowns upside down.

How do you manage to keep light, smell the flowers and remember life is too short? Do tell or we’ll tickle you.

Oh, to answer your question Jem… well it’s tricky axshully! See, the thing is that I am both serious and light. Sometimes at the same time! One minute I can be as serious as a heart attack, the next I’m laughing at something not half funny! Miss Contradiction ha! No more tickling please, me have serious conference to go to! Gotta reign in the inner child for this one! Ha ha ha :[

Bridget - I can’t see you ever getting “old”. Anyway, age is all in the mind - you are as young as you think you are. Which makes us both no more than 21!

That football team is England - the three lions is the national team emblem.

I have done some huge pranks in my day…..
People say act your age…..no!
I know how old I am … I am older than God and he was a very naughty Boy..!!!!

but seriously…..
the older you get the more set in your ways you become… I find I’m less tolerant and have far less patience than i use to…. but you also get much wiser, can see things mostly as they are, and have a greater insight into things…. so I dont get uptight over the small stuff…. I save it for the big issues….

I stay young at heart and in mind.. by being stupid…. playing pranks, I do like a good stir…but I think the best is to laugh….
You have to laugh…. have fun…. life is to short to waste being serious all the time…. enjoy it…..

It depends whether I have been drinking or not. This morning I feel like a 95 year old, last night I felt like a 25 year old, and did.

On a normal day I still don’t feel I’ve moved on from my 14 year old self. Sometimes I think I need to grow up, sometimes I’m told to grow up but ultimately I cannot see why I should.

I can still function as an adult, I just don’t think like one a lot of the time.

When I was young, I always took things too seriously — never letting things roll off my back, never taking anything with a grain of salt. All of that ’seriousness’ has taken it toll on me mentally and physically. The older I get, the more I try to enjoy life. It’s the only one I have, ya know? And every since my niece passed away three years ago, I see that it is fleeting, as well. But,it is a constant struggle to lighten up about life.

I was practically born grown up. Way too serious about a lot things. I try to take it pretty easy these days, except when it comes to writing, of course.

I do feel that life is very short at certain times but then other times, I feel life is like taking a long time to run its course..Am I being weird thinking like this?
