GO! Check Your Drinking Water For Drugs
March 21st, 2008 by angesbiz
Some months back, the topic of drugs in our drinking water and it’s effect on humans was raised by me in some comments and I cannot for the life of me find the post it was on, perhaps Gary can as we had a quite a discussion about it.
Recently, I came across this article in Yahoo News with the words Drugs in Drinking Water in it which grabbed my attention, and I wanted to pass it on to you. It’s not the best news I could give you but I think it is important to be aware of what is likely to be in the water we drink.
It is recognized that this (drugs in drinking water) is a problem now and there is a growing concern by the US Environmental Protection Agency, and the problem is not limited to the USA, but worldwide.
The article states that:
“A vast array of pharmaceuticals — including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones — have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows.”

Duane Moser, an assistant research professor with Desert Research Institute, collects water samples
“We know we are being exposed to other people’s drugs through our drinking water, and that can’t be good,” says Dr. David Carpenter, who directs the Institute for Health and the Environment of the State University of New York at Albany.
My concern is that over time, this will affect our health if we keep on drinking ordinary tap water. The amount of substance passed by one person over time, multiplied by millions of people all on some form of medication, has to eventually take it’s toll and cause undue harm to unsuspecting citizens of the world.
Are you drinking tap water now? Reverse Osmosis filtered water is the most effective and although it is not 100% guaranteed to take out all the harmful contaminants in water, it does reduce it immensely. Another option is bottled water but do check the manufacturers aren’t just bottling up tap water without any treatment.
So what are your thoughts and do you already drink filtered water?

Hey Ange,
Uncanny timing as we’re reading up on FLUORIDE DECEPTION….
Water from the tap in Dubai taste off anyway - its de-salinated even if you boil it to make a cup of tea it still tastes ‘different’.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3y8uwtxrHo
Scary stuff and we know of cases where people refuse to rinse their mouths in the dental water or anything to do with Fluoride.
When I was a kid flouride was reasonably knew in the water and we were told it was to help our teeth and our health…. an islander family moved in a few houses away, they had the msot perfect teeth never seen a toothbrush…. with in 18months of brushing teeth and drinking the tap water the kids teeth where rotting, no Pagan they didnt eat loads of sugar they still ate the traditional food….
The dentist could find the only differrence the flouride in the water and their brushing three times a day….. eventualy they lost all their teeth and had false teeth before they were 18…..

Now that’s really interesting AC, to have beautiful teeth and then false teeth… just goes to show what toothpaste can do. I guess if we grow up with it from a very early age, our teeth adjust accordingly. We don’t use commercial toothpaste here and haven’t done for about 3 years. The one we have is free from fluoride. I learned that fluoride is a poison which coincided with when we started a family so I searched for personal care products which were free from harmful ingredients so that the kids didn’t have to be exposed to them.

Hi Ange
The best toothpaste to use…. is Bicarb soda…. yep thats right…. sound silly but it whitens your teeth, kills bacteria and because it does foam slightly gets inbetween your teeth no need for flossing…..
….. no light beer but tooheys or VB…. draught is good….
no chemicals etc…
Also sorbalin cream instead of soap will moisterise as well clean, does no damage to your skin, no castic soda etc, for fresh breathe breath lemon, but rinse the bicarb well first…. or you get sherbet…. havent found one for hair yet although every one tells me
there you have Aussies guide to chemical free bathing…. lol.. enjoy is it fun..

I had a teacher in college who was always warning us about the flouride in tap water. He said that it was a sedative or something and the government was really trying to keep the populace under control with the stuff. I always thought he seemed a little off.
This stuff is almost convincing, especially since flouride in large quantities does have those kinds of effects, but if anyone just looked at the statistics they’d see how good flouride has been for people’s teeth. Ah, but I’m talking to a bunch of brits here. I forgot.
hey I havent been British for 180 years…lol….
and my teeth are great…. if only this baby tooth would hurry up

Jim & Em, since how long have you guys been living in Dubai?
When I was growing up, we used tap water for cooking, drinking but then with the advent of bottled water “revolution” things have changed. And yes I agree with you, once we got used to the bottled water, the tap water tastes funny. I am not sure if the quality of tap water has gone down or maybe our taste buds have become more choosy

I have seen all 3 parts to this series of videos interviewing Chris Bryson. It makes me want to SCREAM when I hear that industry has so much money that they can buy any toxicology report and cover up the truth from the public. It’s quite sickening to know they can do this. Of course I knew this already, but watching these interviews has brought my awareness to the fore again… what to do?

Anti-convulsants and sex hormones?!?!
And you think this is a BAD thing?
Christ, if the only way I can feel like I got nailed AND stop th..thh..thiss..f*cking shaking is to drink tap water…then by all means, put that sh*t in!!
I WONDERED why my faucet’s been looking so damn hot these days.
Good to know.
Don’t you just love candid camera!! My kids made me replay it 5 times… thanks Jim

Sounds to me,that 41 million Americans are drinking their own recycled p**s! I drink tap water all the time at home becase it’s from a reliable source…WALES!I won’t drink tap water in hotels or large cities, the closer to the natural source the more clean it is likely to be.
Don’t you realize we’re all drinking recycled dinosaur piss? The water we’re drinking now has been repeatedly filtered and recycled naturally for millions of years.

scary stuff ange - perhaps hollywood should make a film? then we would take notice perhaps?
We occasionally buy bottled water - Mandy’s mum has to drink it when she visits from wales as it disagrees with her. I noticed a change moving from cambridgeshire to derbyshire.
I’m a bit uneasy about boycotting tap water - I mean its a basic human neccesity and should be a basic human right - safe drinkable water - right?
Last of the simple country boys I’m afraid - but you’ve got to believe in something being good for you and tap water is about as basic as it should get.
Cheers!

…. or perhaps that should be “your very good health”?

I have a filter system installed in my apartment. When I lived in NYC I drank bottled water.
I mainly drink filtered water and if not that, then tap water.
Bottled water is such a con and there are heavy carbon footprint implications.
On a recent “Panorama” investigation on the BBC, they investigated the a bottled water brand called Fuji. This is bottled in Fuji and shipped around the world at great cost to teh USA, UK and Europe. Yet , the local people in Fuji around hte bottlin plant were suffereing from loack of water and have to walk miles to the nearest communal tap.
In London there is currently a campaign to force restaurants and bars to make tap water available in jugs free of charge, to counteract the growing insurge of bottled water. Claridges even has its own “Water Menu” with bottled water from around the world with the most expensive being £21 a bottle!
In the Panorama progamme, they had various food and drink experts carry out “blind” tastings of the water and one of them chose London tap water as the best!
20 years ago, before Perrier came into the UK market with their clever marketing and thereby created the bottle water industry, we all drank tap water - and we survived.

A BBC Program we watch here did extensive research on water ….. they found in the mid west America in the FArm belt men had an extremely lower sperm count than men in the citys seemed odd because the air and water was cleaner…. when they finally test the water they found the chemicals from the farms were leaching into the water supply and eventually showed it was cause, medications where also found to be present in high levels in major drinking water supplies and water which was recycled from sewage as in Singapore and London had very high levels of these medications….. all though the bacteria and nasties can be filtered out to give clean and safe drinking water, they cannot as yet remove all medication residue…. Contreceptive pill, hormones, anti depressents, antibiotics and all forms of medications can be found at various levels in drinking water…. the reverse osmoses filtration is the only way to limit the levels however on a commercial scale it is not viable…. bottled water is not much better as so many companies use tap water…..
well done Ange on this post a topic which needs to be investigated further I do think….
aussiecynic’s last blog post..dynamite!
Why do they have to add “antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones” into the drinking water? Governments encourage that or what?
Dubai Guy’s last blog post..Domestic Help Needs Help
The pesticides and chemicals are leaching through the ground water table and entering the drinking supply through natural sepidge…. the medications etc enter the drinking water through storm water and recycled waste water… although the water is clean they as yet do not have a filtration system strong enough or small enough to remove these chemicals as their particle size is so small……
Also has only recently been discovered…. these chemicals are also entering the food chain as water from drains and overflows enter the streams and river systems… fish and marine which enhabit these areas absorb the chemicals into their systems…. mercury, lead, etc acumilate overtime to unsafe levels, we cash and eat the fish and also absorb these chemicals which in turn acumilate in our system and ultimate effect our health… higher cancer rates, high lead in children, high mercury levels etc are just some examples…..
Down here in Tassie we are not allowed to catch and eat fish from the Derwent River the marine life is considered to toxic to eat…. the officials are saying no more than 3 fish in a week but pregnant women and children are to avoid totally….
In Speers Point Newcastle NSW one of the smelters closed…. it was operating within guidelines and environmental standards however children living in the areas around the smelter were found to have extremely high lead levels in their blood stream…. it was found the lead was in the soil and the backyards… many properties had to be decontaminated over a period of several years, the children where found to have learning and intellect problems as well various other health issues caused by the lead……
Some of it was government not taking appreate action at the time but mostly being unknown at the time it is only know we are learning of the damage caused by such activities..

That was really informative & also worrying at the same time. What are we poor souls supposed to do to protect ourselves? Or is there no hope?
Dubai Guy’s last blog post..Domestic Help Needs Help
there is always Hope dubai….
remember it was the only thing left in the box.. and the only thing when all else is gone that we have…
aussiecynic’s last blog post..dynamite!
They dont add them ….
aussiecynic’s last blog post..dynamite!
The anti-biotics etc are not added to the water DB, it comes from human waste of those that take the medication… the medication is not fully metabolized in the body and so a portion of it escapes into the water system and all the of waste (including industry) combines to pollute the drinking water.

I have a Reverse Osmossi system and I wouldn’t be without it! My kids only drink it and I cook with it too. It is wonderful - there is no way that I would drink our water! Ask AC she will agree with me I’m sure!!! Not sure about everyone else’s water but I know that the majority of the time our water is brown!!!
Our water is the colour of weak tea at best and at worst can be the colour of black coffee……
most folks get their water from the spring.. yes we take large plastic containers to the spring and fill up….. but that isnt that good being a mining town there is 100 years of bad pracitces leaching into the soil and the spring…. and isnt that much better thatn the tap water just clearer.. third world standards in Australia… very poor
aussiecynic’s last blog post..dynamite!
It is disturbing but water can hide other dangers as well…
Soooooooo Funny….
But I would be extremely cross after the shock…. mobile phone, ipod, wallet…. etc all ruined by the water……
Still funny…. more because i am glad it wasnt me……
