GO! Smell, something!
March 15th, 2008 by JimPaul McCartney performs George Harrison’s “Something” on a ukelele joined later by Clapton!
Although John Lennon and Paul McCartney — the two principal songwriting members of the band — both praised “Something” as among the best songs Harrison had written, the recording of the song was marked by acrimonious spats.
Despite this, the single managed to top the Billboard charts in the United States, and also entered the top 10 in the United Kingdom. After the breakup of The Beatles, the song was covered by many artists including Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, James Brown, Julio Iglesias, Smokey Robinson, becoming the second-most covered Beatles song after “Yesterday.”
Who was your fave Beatle and why? Comments welcomed!

Eleanor Rigby - that fusion of pop and classical instruments.
Fab Beatle???? Tricky to single one out but the recent tv outings of Paul (Jools Holland Hootenanny show) and the Brit awards - can’t help but admire the guy for still going.
At this point the more cynical of you will be thinking that he needs all the work he can get to pay for the upcoming divorce… you may be right but I wish him luck anyway.

Day By Day - George Harrision? Never heard of that one…… Thought I knew them all, how does it go AC?
The Beatles were the sum total of 4 distinct individuals and would likely not have achieved what they did had any one of them not been a part of it and before anyone picks on the ’soft target’, that includes Ringo just as much any of the others.
It is a joke…. if I find the clip and tell you…. something I was shown once… might just be a Tassie thing…lol

I grew up in NYC where we would sometimes see John Lennon walking around Central Park with Yoko. I think because of his calm and loving nature, his talent and because my mom would play “Imagine” every chance she got and me “Double Fantasy minus the Yoko songs”… John has to be my favorite. There are too many Beatles songs for me to even name one favorite but Hey Jude and Something are among my favorites.
Jennifer Mannion’s last blog post..Law of Attraction Question: What do I do when someone important in my life does not BELIEVE in the Law of Attraction and I do?
Definitely John-
The others were great, but John outgeniused them all.
John was a genius, but did he outgeniuse the others? Ringo yes, George quite possibly, Paul no.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Paul was stronger either, or trying to sit on the fence, it’s not that straightforward. But I do believe that Lennon’s assassination lead to him becoming deified and disproportionately accorded greater kudos on account of that fact.
As solo artists, both Lennon and McCartney have been guilty of occasional brilliance, plenty of better than average and plenty of dross with their respective outputs.
How does Paul McCartney manage to garner such respect?
The Beatles were ok, but overated.
But has anyone listened to the drivel McCartney has put out post Beatles?
Well I agree that McArtney is as TALENTED as Lennon…but it’s just that, to me, a genius is more serious. Lennon was alot more serious than Paul. Paul doesn’t write epic songs, he writes fun songs.
That’s the difference, imho.
Excuse me, doesn’t write epic songs? Did you forget:
Yesterday
Eleanor Rigby
Got to get you into my life
Paperback writer
For no one
She’s leaving home
Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Penny Lane
Hey Jude
Let It Be
You never give me your money
She came in through the bathroom window
Golden slumbers
Maybe I’m amazed
Too many people
Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey
Doesn’t write epics? Need I go on?
Who was it that introduced avant garde to The Beatles, tape loops and backwards tapes - McCartney.
Wrote more dross than John but only in relation to the significantly longer period spent recording. They both wrote fun, political, drug inspired, hard rock, ballads and epics.
Seems to me that like most of the world you have fallen into the common trap of the deification of John Lennon since his death. And probably the other trap that McCartney wrote the soft love songs and Lennon the hard edge rock. They both did both in vast quantities.
