  1. 1. I am an inspirational mom who has healed herself of illnesses and whose passion is to help others do the same.
    2. I have 2 blogs Heal Pain Naturally, where I share natural means to heal emotional and physical pain as I did. I also share my thoughts on Big Pharmas and contribute personal stories about life in general. My favorite posts I have written include “Are you Listening to Your Self-Talk” and “A-Z — 26 Facts you Did not know about me” — the last was a meme that I made into a rhyming poem.
I also blog about non-violent computer game recommendations for kids. I have taught computers to children and adults and know that there are a lot of quality games for kids to be playing.
    3. Go Smell the Flowers has all the right ingredients for a blog…. take the video for this contest for example…. current events, current popularity (Am Idol), humor and The Muppets — what could be better than that?!
    4. I can bring awareness to healing from within and the importance of being conscious. I am happier and healthier now than I have ever been and that is because of the steps I TOOK. I’d love to reach a new audience and help them heal what ails. I have tons of resources, book, videos and other blogs to recommend.
    5. I’d LOVE comments, support and spreading my story and my words from the community.

      Jennifer,

But there are plenty of people with those marshmallow backgrounds on this site, what makes you think we need another one? All sounds rather lame to me. Stick to your own blogs.

Easy Nemo! Not now!! This comes at stage 2! That’s when the shortlisted put posts up and we get to have a field day ha!

Hey Jem, is Bridget glad she didn’t have to go through the BLOG IDOL! ;) But hmmm.. come to think of it, she’d have come through with flying colours! Go! Smell the modesty ha! ;) So good call Jem to just open the door and walk her in 8)

Moppet has decided to enter Blog Idol….. all on her own…. please consider her entry as you would any other…. she can hold her own on most things.. so dont let her age fool you’s… Her entry is all her own work and no help except for spelling from me….

about me I am funny I help people I am nice I am a kid I love my mum and dad I love all kinds of animals
          this is my blog.
          http://kidscorner.aussiecynic.com/

Why do I do it I like meeting new people even on the internet.I can express me feeling and my self to others. You can tell people how it feels to be a 9 year old Australian girl and my life as it happens.

I like the website because you meet people every day from all around the world. You guys are really funny and I learn about where they are from and they tell me what it is like where you are.

I could bring a sence of humour, a kids voice,a unique point of view.

to respect me and treat me how they want to be treated. thats all.

aussiecynic’s last blog post..7 reasons not to mess with children.

      • Urban Pagan says:

        nice claims

        but all ultimately unproven

if you can scientificaly prove you can make people heal themselves you would win a nobel prize for medicine and have changed science as we know it beyond all recognition.

so if you can back it all up I say yes.

if on the other hand you can’t and as such are a new ager wanting to publicise more new age nonsense then I say no- this site has enough charlatans to form a 1990’s manchester based indie band as it is.

And re - non violent computer games- violent games can serve a cathartic function. without this kids have no outlet for violence. until the day they eventually stroll into their school in a long black mac cheesed off that they weren’t popular.

        • Jim & Em says:

Welcome to the thorns and flowers Jennifer and good for you for plucking up the courage to enter BLOG idol first!

        • Why does everything have to be proven with you UP… if something has worked for someone, can’t you just get it? Not all medication works the same way on every individuals! so how do you prove that works! Different side effects, pop up all the time. You might as well hand out placebos and see what effects they have. Some people have been cured with placebos… haven’t they?

Buzzing with Ange’s last blog post..My Greatest Personal Challenge To Date

          • Fertile Fish says:

            But he is right:

“if you can scientificaly prove you can make people heal themselves you would win a nobel prize for medicine and have changed science as we know it beyond all recognition.

          • Urban Pagan says:

            because

one person getting a positive effect is no way to judge efficacy

now if the one person effect is replicated over controlled circumstances then great all of humanty can benefit.

but with ‘healing’ I see it as quackery.

for example if I said eating cheese will cure cancer because someone I know eats cheese and doesn’t have cancer would you accept it or would you ask for prof it works?

if someone makes a claim they should expect to be challenged and have evidence to back it up

            eg

where I share natural means to heal emotional and physical pain as I did.

please tell me how you did this, how you know it was you who did it and how you know no external influences are present. otherwise its an opinion based as fact. which in terms of medicine is nonsense.

        • There is an assumption here that by ’scientific’ you mean ‘natural science’..the collection of empirical evidence of materila things is not the whole story. Science means ‘knowledge’ and therefore social science is a valid approach too. This would admit sense-making and meaning on the part of the perciever :)

        • Jacqueline says:

Actually, it is a proven fact that it is precisely those violent video games that make kids numb to violence and to life. They lose the ability to devlop healthy coping skills and necessary social skills.

    Here you go:

    1) Describe myself: Short. Funny. Getting Old.
    2) Why do I blog? I blog because the voices tell me to. Also, I enjoy making people laugh - especially those people who don’t THINK they’d laugh at the stuff I write. Also, someday, I hope to be king.
    3) Why does GSTF appeal to me? Smell the Flowers appeals to me because I enjoy being the AntiChrist to all the happy-go-lucky isn’t-the-world beautiful bullsh*t posts that people put on here. A ying to the yang, if you will. A K-Fed to the Britney. There…I like that analogy even better.
    4) What can I bring to the community? Um…brownies. I make good brownies. I hope you don’t mind marijuana.
    5) What I’d like from the community? Fame. Fortune. To be Pam Andersen’s next husband. If you guys could pull that off, I’d appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

    4) What you can bring to the community.
Guidance, ideas, positive model, enthusiasm, and courtesy.

    3. I love Go! Smell the Flowers because you guys get people like me involved with others and remind us to find the joy in life. We can get too serious sometimes and forget to savor the beauty and wonder around us.
    4. I bring to the community my genuine love for others and deep desire to be of service. I share my experiences in the hope that they will be of benefit to someone who reads them.
    5. All I ask of the community is to share your comments and experiences. Tell me what works for you, how you can relate to what I write, and what you would like to gain a better understanding of. Give me the opportunity to contribute something of value to your life.

      Jacqueline,

I think your problem will be that you’ll get all upset once we start having a pop at your comments, which I’d bet my bottom dollar would be very easy.

I can see it now, “Dear GSTF, I was really excited at being made a Founder on the blog, but now feel that I must resign due to a petty tantrum I am having on account of some of the comments I don’t like that have been made.”

      • Urban Pagan says:

You have an amazingly narrow view. What makes you so sure that I haven’t been through more Hell and back again than what you can imagine? I didn’t get this bold by being afraid of opposing views. My truth is my truth, regardless of what anyone else thinks of it. Conversely, I respect your truth as your truth, equally valid. What I do is share my perspective freely for those who wish to consider it. If it blesses one other person on this Earth, it was worth it. You don’t have to be that person. I wish you well anyway.

  6. RYK says:

    Mike outstanding outstanding.

  7. 1 Expat inspirer, sharing what I know to help others to grow through speaking, teaching, writing and blogging
2 I blog in a few places, but none see my attention more than here at Flowers. Go to my site http://www.expatrollercoaster.com and click through to my various blogs there. Expat Rollercoaster inspires expats and those who live abroad - mainly concerning portable careers, networking and transition issues. The book cooks (http://www.thebookcooks.com) inspires writers, authors and self-publishers.
3 I love Go! because of the people. Jim and Em are the generous roots of this passionate and inspiring enterprise, fed by the Dubai sun and watered by their hard work, communication, creativity and devotion to the cause. The blog has become the trunk, with the founders the branches and new flowers bloom daily, filling the world with their scent.
4 I bring my expertise and knowledge in the areas of living and working abroad, creating a career based on your passion and getting published and paid for it. I am here to share generously and willingly with those who want to know.
5 It is my dream that the community here is joined by a common goal of sharing what they know to help others to grow, of nurturing others and of generosity of spirit. May this be a place of inspiration, friendship, optimism, support and wisdom while being a safe haven for those who need a little extra help as they start to grow beneath the strong branches of our ‘tree’. That all those who visit Flowers feel among friends.

    • Jim & Em says:

Even more upsetting was the 7.30am news bulletin on BBC radio 2 and classic fm failed to even mention the launch not an hour previously - blatant miss-use of public money not reporting such an important event.

    2. -seven months ago i hadn’t ever been to a blogsite. now i are one. my wife told me that i’d been touring and performing and composing and recording for four decades and probably knew a bunch of stuff i didn’t even know i knew and that i should give back to the community. so i started datamusicata and just started putting up everything i know about what i do, from booking to selling cd’s from the stage to house guesting. everything i could think of. so it’s seven months later and we just crested 225,000 hits. i wish i could sell that many cd’s. i’d be looking reaaaaaaaaal gooooooooood.
    3. i like the community and the sense of humor, whimsy and joy.

It seems whoever applies, there will be a lot of leg pulling involved :-)

Btw, what is the real purpose of this blog? Is it all about grilling people, making fun of them, provoking them or what? Seriously, I was wondering about this. What made the 3 original founders leave & what is exactly expected from the new ones?

I asked if I am eligible because I guess you guys said 10 countries, 20 founders. I believe you already have 2 from the UAE?

I wanted to join mainly to offer Islamic point of view, not just as a commentor but maybe as an initiator of new debate. And when I say debate, I mean decent debate witout trying to offend anyone. Asking provocative questions, like my “best” friend urban pagan, is not my style. Heaed arguements lead to no where :-)
Dubai Guy’s last blog post..What is your choice: Islam or Society?

      • Jim & Em says:

Agreed DubaiGuy and the purpose of this community is to inspire & be inspired and it will grow into that….these are the early days!

Rather than moderate, form clubs and stifle debates we let flowers and thorns mix together and the pests in the garden roam free,

The 17 founders in 10 countries may become 20 in 13 countries, 19 in 11 etc -no rule to that…..before that there we a couple of other founders who didn’t like the tone here….honestly - no issue - their choice!

The previous founders left due to time pressures of this place and their own blogs plus 2 North Americans recently left as they were offended by the provocation here BUT once you kick around here for a while and watch it grow you’ll get a feel for who is who…

Granted it can be intimidating but we are determined to keep it open - thorns and all!! Hence BLOG idol which is going global as we type.

The community are starting to police the content between them - between us all -anyone grossly out of line is pulled up from time to time -it happens but as yet we’ve not deleted one comment!

We hope this helps and as life coaches our purpose is to inspire others.

Religion and politics in any medium often provoke strong reactions - we rarely get involved in that aspect but others can do whatever their purpose is right here in the garden! To date we acknowledge your contributions here at GO! Smell the flowers and long may it continue.

  12. Fertile Fish says:

    Blog Idol? What utter nonsense!

Judging by the nicer than nice comments this is hardly Blog Idol. Jim and Em are Cowell and Osborne? Give over……. Group hugs anyone? (doh!).

And the other panelists……. GIC(?) quote, “So we are setting the entrance levels high and the candidates are meeting them, 2 good ones so far………” Well by my reckoning there had been 3 entrants by the time you commented, so which one of them is crap and why?

More to the point, which 2 of them were any good, all I saw was lame namby pampy comments cooments from all 3 of them, “Oooh I’m dead risque I am!” or “I want to share my deep and meaningful twaddle with anyone too soft to say no to listening, honest I have important stuff to share”…… or words to that effect.

    Blog Idol??????

    Wake up losers……….

          Fish,
What we are after is informed debate and inspiration.
Open arguments and simply cutting and pasting from google are fine but don’t really make for a gameful debate.
As of today I have yet to see a single comment from you that is anything other than childish name calling or abuse, you tend to come across as a bedwetting teenager typing away in a bedroom full of tissues and rhythm mags.

Are you going to enter or simply sit on the side lines and lob abuse or names at people?

Once they are all entered they have to put up a post, then we will be doing the interrogation - least thats how I understood it. Either way do you have the minerals or not?

          • Fertile Fish says:

            GIC,

Quote “Are you going to enter or simply sit on the side lines and lob abuse or names at people?”

Hmmmm Mr Big Shot Company Director, did you read back to yourself what you just wrote? Does the quoted line from your message not describe your message pretty much in its entirety?

Quote, “Once they are all entered they have to put up a post, then we will be doing the interrogation - least thats how I understood it.” Well maybe that’s how you understood it, me on the sidelines, ie not party to the Founders Club, do not have this understanding. I have no inkling of any shortlist or trial posts.

Maybe I missed something that explained this, but I rather thought this was a search based upon Pop Idol / American Idol, as that is how the build up to it on the blog has been described.

When I wrote my initial comment on this post (ie this thread you replied to) frankly I thought what had happened at that point in time was dull and not in the spirit of my understanding of Blog Idol. Hence my comment “Backslappers Idol” which in my opinion was an accurate description of the total post at that time.

Since then it has livened up impressively, what with you getting on your high horse and Urban joining the fun also.

And if you feel my contribution to date is nothing more than (quote) “As of today I have yet to see a single comment from you that is anything other than childish name calling or abuse, you tend to come across as a bedwetting teenager typing away in a bedroom full of tissues and rhythm mags.” then why have you personally congratulated me on a number of my comments previously?

Getting my comments to appear in the right order is somewhat harder as it is out my control you nark.

We don’t need all founders and all contributers to be abusive, controversial or opinionated. We are after a mix. That way we can have a range. You astick to your job, let others stick to theirs.

Yanno, I wasn’t going to enter for a myriad of reasons, most of all because I was ALWAYS picked last for the kick ball team in grade school and I hate popularity contests —
But this just made me laugh and laugh. What we have is a Randy and Paula with Jim & Em — I’d say you, m’lovely fishy thang, are the Simon of the Bunch.
      Bring it on baybay …
      Here’s my gig:
      1) Describe yourself in less than 20 words.
Woman. Wife. Mother. Poet. Friend. (it’s my bio on my blah-g)

      2) Details of your blogs URL and why you bother.
This makes absolutely no sense. Say what you mean, peoples. The question should be worded thus:
      2) The URL of your Blah-g & Why You Bother To Put Your Words Out Where The World Can Read You
      http://rufus.bowlofhours.com
I’ve been blahg-ing for seven freakin’ years because everyone has a right to my opinion and I’m wonderful. Even if I do say so myself.

      3) Why GO! Smell the flowers appeals to you.
I was given an award for being a “flower smeller” — hence I found “Go! Smell the Flowers” and fell in love. Such pretty colors!

      4) What you can bring to the community.
My undeniable sarcastic wit. My charming smile. A shyte load of friends from all over the world. Terrific graphic abilities (yes, yes … I’m a self employed graphic artist/digital diva, yadda yadda yadda) Free advertising on the sites who hire me to be their web Goddess and I’m the production editor for an online magazine — I can tell great stories if I’m motivated.
When I’m not doing the above, I’m an ordained minister with no use for God because she’s really busy. Which is why she hired me to run what I call The White Light Express. http://www.whitelightexpress.com

      5) What you’d like from the community.
More awards. I really like those.
And couch space when I travel. I really like that too.

  17. 1)DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN LESS THAN 20 WORDS.
Madonna Louise Ciccone describes me best: “I’m tough, I’m ambitious, and I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, okay.”

    2) DETAILS OF YOUR BLOGS URL AND WHY YOU BOTHER.

    *Autism and The Empress
I’m the mother of an 11 yr old Autistic boy. He is the love of my life, but living, loving and caring for him can be quite stressful. This, being my first blog, was originally intended to relieve that stress through writing. However, it has taken on a life of its own. It is an educational tool to those who are only familiar with the word ‘Autism’ and an affirmation for those on the Autism Spectrum. It is my window I’ve opened to allow you a look-see into the world of parenting an Autistic child.

    *40 Something and Mean
The name pretty well describes the blog. I’m a 44 year old woman who has suddenly awakened to the fact that I’m not a spring chicken anymore. My writings reflect that fact as I chat about aging, sickness, online dating, fractured fairytales and even gas (not the petroleum kind). There’s also what I call “Tea Bag Tag Time.” I love herbal teas and so once a week, I take the quote off of one of my tea bags and analyze it.

    *MOMster ~ The Scaaary Blog
Yeah, I’m scary. My kids know it; my landlord knows it and the customers who visit my haunted house every Halloween season know it. I began this blog for all who DON’T know it. I love all things haunted and this is my way of reaching out to those who love horror. It is also my avenue to letting others in on what it’s like to run a charity haunted house.

    3) WHY GO! SMELL THE FLOWERS APPEALS TO YOU.
You mean besides the fact that it’s hip, live and in the now? Why, the shear name you’ve chosen appeals to me. It’s a reminder that when life gets to be a pain in the gluts, stop for a moment and take a breath.

    4) WHAT YOU CAN BRING TO THE COMMUNITY
This was a toughie and the last question I answered. I could say I can bring education, instruction, knowledge and the like. But, what I’m really bringing is just ME and along with me comes realism, humor, candor and what it’s like living in my world.

    5) WHAT YOU’D LIKE FROM THE COMMUNITY
    Simply this:
Accept me. Yes, I write differently than most and no, I’m not the best writer in the world. But, I do have a voice – I have something to say.

Try starting with rubbing your stomach AND tapping your head at the same time, it might help you get the knack of doing two things at once.
Of course posting something of quality would be a start. The trick is to put up one or two posts that actually say something, that way the other ones that just poke fun or criticise are received a little bit better as they are balanced by actual comments of substance.

Now either go away and busy yourself with your rhythm mags or actually try and contribute.

        • Fertile Fish says:

Initially I did not think this comment being worthy of response, the references to McDonalds having been made by GIC on numerous occasions (a clear indicator of his lack of creative thought processes) but on reflection it dawned on me; the incredible magnitude of the insult he actually delivers, and the sheer scale of pomposity and arrogance of this man.

We are frequently reminded by him of how important he is, and what an incredibly senior position he holds in the major manufacturing world of global corporate life. Yet with all the experience and exemplary management skills he claims to possess, he thinks nothing of insinuating that the 1.5 million employees of the McDonalds System are just a bunch of masturbating teenagers with no prospects.

          McDonalds is essentially a very large global network of mini-factories, producing the products we all know and love, or hate (but we do know them) on small scale production lines;

1 person cooks the burger, another prepares the salad ingredients, the 3rd builds the burger from the component parts passed to him on the line, a fourth fills the fries carton and the fifth asks you what you want and says, “Have a nice day,” whilst delivering your finished product.

          They do not employ chefs.

There are of course supervisory, managerial and director level staff. There are many independent franchisees who own their own small part of the vast McDonalds empire. They all have one thing in common:

To consistently serve to the same standard the 52 million customers who pass through the 31,000+ restaurants every day. This objective is by no means an easy task,

The average restaurant serves circa 1,700 meals per day, and to ensure the System achieves their standards objective Mc’s spends US$1 Billion per year on training. Training at every level. They employ high caliber, high powered people, but perhaps more importantly for the less privileged employee, McDonalds are also prepared to take on employees with no previous experience, or qualifications.

They open the door to employment for well over a million people right across the world, providing these lucky (yes lucky) individuals with the opportunity to pay their way in life and, if they are smart enough, develop that opportunity into a financially well rewarded, bonafide, career.

I find it highly incongruous that our high powered senior director friend preaches that we should not insult anyone and then repeatedly insults and demeans both the livelihoods and characters of 1.5 million people across the globe.

Well done GIC, you have set an extremely high standard there.

          • Gareth In China says:

Fantastic, at last you finally get into the spirit of GSTF.
A comment with some thought and structure. It only took turning insults back towards you to actually achieve it - finally I found the key to unlock your brain to work further than simply insulting people.
            Congratulations.

As for my position - I post about things, I mention things, you seem to be the only person who has an issue with it. Pompous, probably but it has served me well so far in my career.

I’m running a bit behind my own schedule today; what with planning a two week adventure with my family in that place up by Lake Erie which sucketh mightily (I hate Ohio …)
    I digress (I often do) –
You’re not getting the applications you desire/deserve because you haven’t been CLEAR about what a founder is required or expected to do.
It has nothing to do with our Fertile Fish swimming through the Flower Pond — if anything he has been a marvelous (albeit slightly annoying in a charming “class clown” sort of way) bit of fluff. I have a few friends in my own “pond” who often create little waves JUST to make the rest of us think.

Start a new thread, moderate ALL the comments, AND do this BEFORE you hit the weekend. As in, NOW.
ONLY allow applications to appear, if possible.
It wouldn’t break my heart to copy/paste my original app. into the new thread.

As stated before, make it obvious what a “Founder” would be required to do. i.e.: Post a blog at least once a week at Go! Smell The Flowers? Advertise on other sites? Plant a garden? Send flowers to friends? Come up with new and exciting ideas on a monthly basis? Are founders expected to go on an annual cruise with other founders? Will the cruise be ecologically balanced? Will vegan diets be provided? Kosher diets? Furthermore, an explanation of Spiritual Awareness vs. Xian Fundamentalism is quite necessary. I appreciate GSTF because I’ve been here a few weeks and I don’t see anyone leaning towards a single theosophy, which is very appealing.

    C’mon, BE CLEAR.

    .::steps off soap box::.

      Control Freak?

      The Return of Brenda Monkey?

      • Rufus says:

Is this Brenda drowsey? I tried to do some research regarding who this might be, in an attempt to pin point communication errors. I had a recollection of some kind of monkey retiring her founders badge — I found her resignation on page three. Alas, I wasn’t able to figger out what the dilemma was.

You see, I run a “tight ship” in my day job. Communication is essential for the people I work for and with. Not to mention having my finger on the “pulse” of my crew.
As a group & events coordinator for a small resort on the coast of California, you haven’t met a “control freak” until you’ve met the mother of the bridezilla, or the frantic Ops Manager, or the caterer who had a complete melt down or …
        Heh …

I was merely making a suggestion — or shall I say, “Merrily making a suggestion”. I seldom slam doors if my “suggestions” aren’t implemented. This isn’t “my garden” — and I grok that.

But! (Ach, here’s the rub) I’ll always throw in my two seeds worth — monkey or no monkey, eh? Feel free to let the doves find them.

Rufus’s last blog post..Lake Erie, and other sinister thoughts.

        • Jim & Em says:

Hey Rufus - suggestion noted and appreciated! Truly!

The idea is that the true future founders get amongst it here and fathom out the thorns and the flowers….exactly as you are as the garden grows and develops….as it does this place will become a portal for inspiration, this really is just the start!

Granted some come back with gritted teeth and a never again (oh just one more time) approach and there’s been some debates with 200+ comments because of it…..you’re going through the mill here so good for you,

          Jim & Em

        • Billy No Mates says:

          Trying too hard.

          Next!

          • Rufus says:

I can imagine why Billy ain’t got no mates, but that would be too obvious for me to point out.
That comment — “Trying too hard” with the masterful follow up of “Next!” (Yay for enthusiasm!) reminded me of my soon to be ex husbands sister recently telling me, “Oh Rufus, what don’t you do?” and how charmed I was, initially. Then it ocurred to me that she was insulting me.
            I blah-gged it.
My point? When the reality of her sarcasm struck me, I invited her for a chat the next morning — and I told her that I could be a freakin’ surgeon if I could have six more years of school and a helluva internship; and that while she had daddy’s money to back her up in times of trial, I only had my versatility to see me through.
If I’m trying too hard — it’s because that’s what I do and I’ve never been insulted for caring about a flippin’ project.
            I git ‘er done.
Call me the Garden Hoe. (Pun intended) Kay?

My inspiration to start it came after reading my grandfathers journal and I realized that this is all I will ever know of him. I want to leave my thoughts some where and blogging seemed like a good modern way to do so.

3)Go! Smell the flowers appeals to me because of the eclectic mix of topics and fun with posting. I particularly enjoying rocking boats.

4)What can I bring? The opinions and thoughts of an educated 30-something white guy married to a native Hungarian living in northern New England with two energetic dogs. My blog would tell you all you really need to know.

    1) Describe yourself in less than 20 words. Enchanting and enchanted, sane and psychotic, daring and thoughtful, hopeless romantic and rational, fun and safe. I’m an Oxymoron personified.
    2) Details of your blogs URL and why you bother. My blog says it all. I believe, the place to improve the world is first in one’s own heart and head and hands, and then work outward from there. A good heart is better than all the heads in the world. My URL is http://thehaven-earthlingorgeous.blogspot.com. I created this blog because I want to focus on seeing the good things in everything rather than be ugly because of my negativity. I wish to break away from the pessimistic culture I grew-up with (where negatively angled story is more welcomed, that is journalism 101 for you where good news is no news and bad news is good news) . I want to awaken the inner peace in me and in everyone and to create the energy of happiness from within outwards. To see change we should begin with ourselves. Like any beauty queen I to dream of world peace, in my little way, and the space provided by the wonderful world of internet. I want to be an instrument of such despite not owning a crown or a title in any beauty pageants except for being Ms. Friendship during Junior high school . Oh wait! I was 2nd runner-up in the May Flower! LMAO!
    3) Why GO! Smell the flowers appeals to you. First, I like flowers, just the sight of them makes me feel good. Second, I like receiving flowers. Third, your website is fun, bubbly, friendly, inspiring, and creative, specially what you did on the videos on You-tube. Fourth, I want to smell more flowers and probably grow some in my garden. Fifth, I need a group hug.

    4) What you can bring to the community. I can bring myself, my blog, my words, my creations, and be water to the flowers out there. Nurture and nourish their beauty. Inspire and encourage. Let the flowers bloom at their fullest.
    5) What you’d like from the community. I’d like the community to bring more flowers. Continue inspiring, creating wonderful things, seeing beautiful things, loving life and living life. Gather more people and spread the happy bug.

Oh what the hey, I’ll toss my hat in the ring.

    1. I’m a passionate thoroughbred horse racing enthusiast and amateur handicapper.

    2. I blog because my favorite sport (thoroughbred horse racing) is vanishing into obscurity. I’m absolutely dedicated to introducing the complexities of the game to as many new folks as I can. The so called “sport of kings” is at an all-time low in terms of fan following at the moment, and I’d like to do my part to give something back to the game that has given me so many memories. I’m also a hopeless romantic that simply falls in love with some of the horses and can’t resist cheering my heart out for them. If you’ve never cheered a horse on to victory, I’m not sure it’s possible to describe it. I like to consider myself the world’s biggest fan of Curlin, as I’ve stood by his side through thick and then, riding the roller coaster from his loss in the Kentucky Derby to his victory in the Preakness and his championship run in the Breeder’s Cup Classic to seal up Horse of the Year honors. He’s actually in Dubai right now training for the World Cup later this month, where he’ll be favored to win the world championship. Quite an accomplishment for a horse I woke my wife up at 3AM after seeing a replay of in his 3rd lifetime race roughly one year ago while whispering “…he’s the best I’ve ever seen!”

    3. Go! Appeals to me because I know you guys from the blogcatalog forums. It just feels familiar as you guys have always had a presence at BC.

    4. What can I bring? Well, I’d like to think I’m the only thoroughbred horse racing blogger that stops over. I may not be, but I’d like to think I am nonetheless. I’m a very small and specific niche guy, which one might read as: A whole new bunch of stuff to argue about. Who could ask for anything more?

    5. What would I want from the community? Just a simple request. Give it a chance. Open up your heart and let one of these horses in. The Kentucky Derby (the so-called “greatest 2 minutes in sports) is just over a month away. Get to know the main competitors in my frequently updated “Road to the 2008 Kentucky Derby” page, and experience what it’s like to cheer for one of these amazing creatures. Feel what it’s like to be in awe of their combination of beauty, power, and speed. I just realized that I feel like John Turtorro in “Miller’s Crossing” here. “Look into your heart!!!! Look into your heart!!!!”

      Thanks for your entry…..

Great to see you over at flowers and lets see if you win by a length!

    • To Bridget, this one stands out from the lot. For now.

It has in part to do with Bridget’s love for horses and racing. Me love Black by Walter Farley. Later graduated to Dick Francis. Ring a bell Kevin?

Also, this bloke has got Cherokee blood (Bridget is fascinated by native americans), likes midgets (Gary and he will get on like a house on fire..) he is fascinated by anglo-zulu war (I hope that also means he loves Africa) and his wife is 3rd generation Chinese American. We’ll all be speaking Chinese soon between him and GIC, kewl!

To Bridget, Kevin is quite inspiring already!

And check this folks (amongst his 100-things-about-me): “I’m told that I’m very passionate in everything in my life and that I “wear my heart on my sleeve.” Ha! ;)

One reservation only till now. The Field Marshall personality.

      • Kdawg68 says:

        Wow - thanks Bridget! :)

You really must’ve read through that whole 100 things about me page. I’m glad to hear I have so much in common with many here. The Field Marshall personality is really tempered by many of my other traits. It goes back to that whole yin/yang theme with me. I’m stubborn and opinionated, yet I seek harmony and balance.

        • Bridget Jones says:

Haha not quite Kevin, I browsed through :))

Bridget gets to practice all the time at work, couple of mins to browse through brochures or power point prez to pick ‘door openers’ before meeting her audience :))

          Good luck with the shortlist!

    Any more?

  35. Zack says:

    1) Here’s a description of me (more than 20 words… sorry) by my roommate: “I know you’re a gifted ‘folksy-performer-on-the-road’ guitarist, an avid lover of peace and tranquility, an explorer, a man with a childish playful heart, a witty sarcastic iconoclast, who readily sees the problems of our society and culture and has an earnest desire to consciously choose a more wholesome lifestyle and/or reform the ills of modern man.” - Paul

    2) SimpleZack.com is founded on the principle that our society has an immense amount of fake and nonsensical issues. With the blog, I try to express the fundamental goal of simplicity and reality by posting about my life, the lives of others, and common sense facts that aim to promote self development. I really love writing posts that try to make people think and then hear their thoughts on the subject.

    3) I discovered the wonderful site, BlogCatalog back in October, 2007. Upon discovering that site, I found the great Go! Smell The Flowers. Then it was smaller and a different from what it has become today. I fell in love with the name, because it was emphasized focusing on the small and simple things in life and to just be in the moment. As months rolled by, I became a bit disconnected from the internet, but soon I was back and Go! Smell the Flowers was bigger and better than it had ever been. I loved the idea of 20 founders, to give the readers, like me, more great information and humorous posts. After a while, I started commenting and *trying* to get involved and comment with the other flower smellers and soon became a flower smeller myself.

Personally, I do not visit many of the same sites often. Go! Smell the flowers is, honestly, one of the few, influential sites that I return to each day. (I even got rid of facebook but kept coming back to Go!)

    4) I’m just a young college kid, but I believe I can bring creativeness and positivity. If I were to write a post for Go! Smell the Flowers, I would continue the theme as well as adding a hint of my own character. I would really enjoy posting here and creating great conversation with the other smellers.

    5) By being a flower smeller, I have already gained more than enough from the community, and if I were to become a founder, I would enjoy the fantastic conversations and of flower smellers.

If I am selected or not, I thank you for your time and consideration, and look forward to the many more flower smelling years. Peace and love.

    Simple Zack

    2. I Blog because its a creative from of self expression that is possible without selling your soul to Big Media and Big Businesss.

I have 3 blogs, they are my Alpha blog - http://gullibility.blogspot.com because I hope that people might benefit from seeing how to avoid the gullibility of others, and my beta blogs http://foolmyblog.blogspot.com because playing the Fool is one the most helpful things you an be & http://bloggingtoblame.blogspot.com because people oughtn’t jump to simplistic conclusions.

Blogging is a garden of words full of sentences of flowers and the occaisonal rant of weeds.

    3. GSTF appeals to me because it provides part of the mulch of life.

    4. I keep the secetars of observation sharpened with a ruthless cutting edge.

    5. I’d like the community to provide the sensory stimulation of a Flower. It should have a huge number of varied forms, it should be great to look at, inspiring, sweet smelling, and feel great to have around,

  37. Dubai Guy says:

    1) Describe yourself in less than 20 words: Well, Dubai Guy is a simple person trying to live a simple life in a NOT so simple world.

    2) Details of your blogs URL and why you bother: Here is the blog url http://dubaiguy78.blogspot.com/ . Why do I bother? Hmm, interesting question. I started blogging at a time when most UAE based blogs & bloggers only highlighted the negative stories. Plus, almost every blog had its fair share of foul language. So it was also kind of a small effort to show that you can blog using decent language & that writing about positive stories and constructive criticism is fun too :-)

    3) Why GO! Smell the flowers appeals to you? : Well, I had no idea about the existence of GTSF until one fine day when Bridget Jones left a comment on my blog asking for my email address. At first I was a bit suspicious ;-) but I must say I was really happy to see this blog. The rest as they say is history :-D

    4) What you can bring to the community: I think I can bring Islamic perspective in to the sometimes “heated” debates which take place here. Also I can bring some sweets for my best friend Urban Pagan to sweeten him a bit ;-)

    5) What you’d like from the community: I would like to see decent debateson GTSF without anyone trying to offend people based on their ethnic or religious background. I think you guys have done a very good job so far, but then there is always room for improvement. As they say, the only constant in life is change :-)

    Here goes:
    1. I am a fun gay bipolar poet. Mostly, I am super manic, because I drink gallons of coffee.
    2. My blog’s name, Gay Bipolar Guy, is all about spewing thoughts and emotions. It’s hectic and eclectic, made for other psychos, queers, and whoever qualifies as fun, serious, friendly, antagonistic, artistic. All are welcome. I think discovery is a part of it, too.
    3. There really are lots of flowers all over, and it truly is my duty to sniff the sniff out of everything. I mean, things smell a lot differently than they sound or look. (Also, I am a taster.)
    4. The humor, the pathos, the incoherence, and the lush beauty of a gay guy who’s frequently off his meds can bring to the community the vivid vicarious thrill of being personally unusual . . . or bizarre
    5. I seek: The unusual. The colorful and smelly. Different bold voices. Laughter and heartache. I want everything!!!

  42. Elton John - Drama Queen says:

    Hello Admin!

See I reckon me an David would make great founders we would!

Well Madonna rang us last night an says, “Alright Elt, how’s your precious little prince David? Only did you see what your Aunty Bridget wrote about im in er ‘Give us 5’ post?”

“Bloomin right we did Madge,” I says, “only he’s so proud bout it that there’s not goin to be no livin wiv im now there ain’t not, he can’t stop talking bout it see.”

“I’ll bet,” she says, “only me an that film director bloke what I married, we reckons like that the twos of youz should be like one of them duo type founders an all, we do. Why don’ts youz enter it just for a larf?”

See that’s the thing wiv that Madge an that film director bloke wot she married, always laffin at someone they are, never wiv em, an we reckon they think no one would take us serious like wot you av to wiv them founders, so she could take the p!$$ outs ov us ongoin like.

Well me an David should be founders coz he is a little prince (she got that bit right) an Aunty Bridget is right as well coz he does av all these attributes wot she said he as, see:

    1) Wisdom
    2) Multi-cultural
    3) Courtesy
    4) Pacifier
    5) Quiet Strength

An me? Well I’m Elton Blimmin John I am!

    • Jim & Em says:

      Why thank you Elton!

Erm, well, glad you have entered and the final 5 will be announced this Friday the 21st March!

    • Bridget Jones says:

      Lord me!

      Hum. Kinda tricky that one.

      Ok, see this EJ.

The situation: the five words were David S’s.
The problem: your precious little tad airhead David thought they were his. Or something like that.

      The solution:-

      First the equation:
Elton=David F. David F=David S. (they are both Davids right?!) David S = Rex Stormont. Minus Rex Stormont as Founder = Plus Bridget Jones as Founder. Bridget Jones = Aunty. Aunty = Family.

      Bottom line:
Bridget founder status= family founder status=EJ & David F’s founder status.

i.e, Bridget is founder, Elton Blimmin John is founder, David F is founder ha!

      See?

Let me know when you want to post EJ, Bridget will send you her login access details!

      • Elton John - Drama Queen says:

Thank you very much Aunty Bridget, only likes don’t tell David he’s not THE David what you was on about, cos he’s still all chuffed bout it an tellin all hes friends he is, can’t stop talkin bout it. Would break is eart to learn different see, coz we all know he is such an air ead anyways.

Still we av got our first post already writ we av for when we’s shortlisted for the top 5. Brill it is, but don’t want to talk too much bout it yet see, otherwise it will ruin it like right.

Whoooaaaaa there Rufus girl! Fishes don’t fart.

  54. Bridget Jones says:

Er… isn’t the plural of fish fish Nemo?!

Your Brits (you too are huh?) confuse me! At school, I was taught holidays, biscuits, fish. Then I talk to Brits and they all go vacation, cookies and now fishes! So Bridget thought the English they taught her at school was archaic and real embarrassed she was EJ I tell ya. So she shifted to vacation and cookies (but fishes?!!).

That is, until Gary set everyone straight the other day.

Phew! All those years learning English at school were not wasted EJ, what a relief it is EJ! Fastasmagorically relieved Bridget is!

Come my sweet Rosbifs, come learn some English with Bridget ha! 8) Gary will be the School Inspector looking over our shoulders! ;)

  61. I’m afraid I’ll have to agree with Jon folks - welcome back Jon.

It IS getting a tad boring around here!

So.. Nemo, seeing as how you’ve proven to Flowers that you can be a good little fish who can make a deal and live up to his word… Bridget will call the deal off ha! ;)

It’s time to rock the boat a little now Nemo!

Hey don’t look at me like that Jem/ Flowers!! Bridget’s conscience is clear, she’s done her part to promote the Blog Idol hasn’t she?! 8)

    The floor is yours Nemo!

    Only two rules petit poisson:

    1) No double standards
    2) Don’t touch Moppet

Oh and since you lived up to your side of the bargain little Nemo, it’s for Bridget to live up to hers now! I did say we’d play together ha! ;) Blame everything Bridget says about Blog Idol contestants on her deal with Nemo Flowers! 8)
