Tonight is one of the Biggest Party nights in Sydney!

It will be Huge, the Police Will be out in Force, Armed Forces shall Attend,Life Guards, and Clergy will be there as well as everyday People.but they wont be there to protect and Serve, Save your Souls or rescue the Drowning!

They will be Parading in MARDI GRAS! Yep! Tonight is Sydney’s next big Party. 30 years since the first Parade to demonstrate Happy Peoples Right to Gender Love…. 30 years on it has grown to be Australias Largest Party Next To New Years Eve and Australia Day..An expected 10,000 participants and over 300 floats from all over the world are converging on Sydney and the Floats and costumes ready…

For the First time, The Australian Defence Forces will be marching although they are not allowed to be in uniform, they will be identifiable as will about 100 Clergy/Priests.

The Theme for this Years Parade is ‘Brave New World’…Any person who believes we are an intolerant bunch should come on down next year…Multicultural Differences, religious infighting, sexual Discrimination, race, colour and Gender all disappear on this one night of the year. The Tolerance Mardi Gras spreads through the community as Oxford Street is closed down doesn’t fade with the morning light it remains and strengthens for the next year…the right to be you….

Hey AC looks a blast - kinda like the village people meets the circus!

Its one big party as far as we can tell - have you ever been and is there ever any trouble?

Urban Pagan hereis a BIG fan of Notting Hill and is dusting down his feather Boa for late summer, we hear!

**We psee you’ve added few TAG words to the post - GREAT - a habit we’re getting into and we popped in and opened the links in a new window and played with the layout a bit - anyway it opens within flowers - does that work for you when you write a post yet or does it still open in the same window?**

Hmmm - you’re posting the link of the youtube clip - try posting the EMBED CODE - its at the side of most youtube clips - just copy there and paste it here….give it a GO! Let us know - problem with yotube links is they’re often read as SPAM ;-(

I tried the EMBED Jem, it shows as blank on the post. I think only you guys and RYK can post directly in comments at the mo.

That’s some party you have over there Chook! Think I saw quite a few of Elton’s buds in the not-for-the-sensitive clip you linked to!

Not really my cup of tea. If I wanted to be that close to a bunch of camp uphill gardeners I’d get a job teaching at a public school.
Probably more suitable for Lord Likely.

Went to Notting Hill Carnival twice and to be honest it does nothing for me. The dancers and floats loose interest after the first 5 or 10. The dance stage was the only bit worth going to but even then its a case of watching your back for trouble and stabbings (was a few years ago now, I will concede its got much better in terms of security).
It is funny watching plenty of white folk trying to be black and talking all hip saying ‘ting’ instead of ‘thing’ that alone made the tube fare worth it. I doubts I is going rip back into dat ting soon man ya nar.

Nah mate…
this is much better than that… heheheh..
Expected crowd/spectators to exceed 300,000…. lining the street, 10,000 participants from floats to dancers, drag Queens/ La Girls, bands, police, Army, Navy, Airforce, priest etc the costumes are huge… but it the party after that makes the night…
Years ago there was a spat of gay bashings and such but although there would still be that element to a small degree it is mostly pretty good no worsethan any other night out in Sydney…
The quality of the event is second to none and is apparently world class…. it is just one big party straight or slight off centre doesnt matter its just one huge party…

Like I say, see one fag on a float wearing a feather boa you’ve seen them all. Standing around watching 10,000 of them would just bore the pants off me and given the participants preference I would say that is risky in the extreme given my arris is an exit only.

Just doesn’t interest me.

I went along with 5 girlfriends back in the early 90’s and had a blast! We arrived early and positioned ourselves right in front of a pub and Maca’s was a few doors up. We took turns to go and get supplies and it turned out to be a fun experience. I love the colour and costumes, the entertainment and generally a great atmosphere full of energy and excitement!! As Jonathan says… any excuse for a party ;)
