Go smell the Aussie Slang Translation!

January 12th, 2008 by A/C

Okie Dokie As promised…
It is Saturday so its time to translate those little gems I left you all pondering earlier…
From the response I think it is safe to say there is lot to be learned….
So with no further adew here goes:

aussie_mascots.gif

passage one
Macca, Chooka and Wanger are driving to Surfers in their Torana. If they are travelling at 100 km/h while listening to Barnsey, Farnsey and Acca Dacca, how many slabs will each person on average consume between flashing a brown eye and having a slash?

Translation:
3 mates/male friends are Driving to Surfers Paradise In Queensland in their Torana (a early model Holden Car, has cult status amongst holden collectors). If Travelling at 100km/h, while Listening to Jimmy Barnes (Cold Chisel…Band), John Farnham(Whispering Jack Album), Acca Dacca (ACDC coolest Rock Band in the World), how many Cartons of Beer would each of them Drink between Dropping they pants and put their bottoms out the window or doing a wee out the window whilst driving?
For the Answer watch for the next post…
Passage 2
In the arvo last Chrissy the relos rocked up for a barbie, some bevvies and a few snags.  After a bit of a Bex and a lie down we opened the pressies, scoffed all the chockies, bickies and lollies.  Then we drained a few tinnies and Mum did her blockafter Dad and Steve had a barney and a bit of biffo.
Tranlation:
“In The Afternoon last Christmas, the relatives come over for a Barbeque, a few Drinks and Sausages (standard Barbeque food ). After aBex ( old style valium was available in supermarket to settle the nerves) and a lie down, we opened the presents/gifts, then ate Chocolates, biscuits/cookies, and lollies/sweets/candy. Then we drank a few beers and mum got angry/cross after Dad and Steve had a arguement and a bit of a fight….”

I do like our version better much more fun
But heres a few to tickle your taste buds:
What purple root vegetable beginning with the letter “b” is required
by law to be included in a hamburger with the lot?

Who is the most Australian: Kevin “Bloody” Wilson, John “True Blue”
Williamson, Kylie Minogue or Warnie?

Can I chuck a sickie, then chuck a wobbly, while I chuck U-ie at the same time?

I’d forgotten about this post AC and LOL when I read it the first time - you’ve really been flying the Ozzied flag here of late and OH what these boys did to your place :-)

Thanks for taking the time to break down the lingo. I do wonder though - are there accents in Australia?

An dyes, Life is too short, for sure - time to smell those flowers!

Hi there Mel

I have a bit but this subdued compared to sometimes…. lol
We do have an Accent its very nasally sounding… but only small differences across borders and towns… some areas the accent is more pronounced than in the city… its the words which change
like in NSW a Scallop is a potatoe sliced thin battered then deep fried but the same in Victoria and Tasmania is a potatoe cake…
Then there bathers toggs and swimmers all the same thing…
but we generally all sound the same…
All has been put right at the home stead… hehehehehe
