All contestants please pop your name and weight ( in pounds - U.S, U.K or any other as it is % loss)  here in comments by close of play Sunday 13th January 2008 in your local timezone.

Contest closes on Friday 2nd May 2008 when you’ll post your closing weight and the winner will be announced on June 1st 2008 with the highest % weight loss AND a convincing 500 word account with diary if possible of how you managed it.

The prize - Flowers, of course AND 7 nights stay for 2 in a Hotel at our cost (we’ll provide the lettuce leaves) to be used between July 1st and September 1st 2008.  We will  write a progress post every 2 weeks, on Fridays, where you can enter your name & weight as you GO! with any supporting comments to share. Good luck!

Please note: This contest is held in the spirit of the GO! Smell the flowers community and we will not ask for proof and will take what you post as fact together with your final weight and your convincing account.

Seems open to abuse this one; i know (nearly) all on here are angelic, but the offer of free flowers & hotel built from lettuce leaves is enough to twist anyone’s morals.

OK, my name is Giant Haystacks and I’ve just hopped off the scales and came in just shade under 420lbs.

I’m just commencing my mushy pea & celery diet; i’ll get back to you on Sunday.

… hold on i’ve just realised this is taking place over THREE days, how much can anyone loose in that time-scale? Basically anyone who gets flu, diaorrhea or snaffles a box of laxatives will nail it. Hmmm, doesn’t sound very healthy, not setting a good eg. for the year ahead.

  2. Fair point O’DB.

But I think we can vouch for the regulars. The ones amongst us who need to shed some weight have whined about it enough over time for us to know their participation is genuine, and lucky people (like this Bridget ha!) have gloated too much to justify joining the contest ;) You’ll notice none of the fit regulars has joined. Angelic us ha! ;)

    • Oh my! Does it feel good to be amongst Flowers regulars finally ha! ;)
      I am right?! I am right?! ;)

    • O'DB says:

Yea but not only does this tempt us to be maleable with our morals, prompts a a rapid & unhealthy race of weight loss but also gives merit to those porkers who’ve over-indulged over the holy, Festive season (cos they’ll be the ones, who % wise can loose most).

All seems most unfare; consequently I won’t play (fare).

      • Hmmm.. fair point O’DB - The ones who indulged will get rewarded, just how unfair is that huh? Ha! ;)

Nah, it’s a good measure by Jem to (1) encourage fitness and (2) get more traffic to the site.

All’s fair in love and war .. and increasing popularity ha! ;) Bridget is with you on this one Jem. Go guys!

How can it promote unhealthy weight loss when its over a 4 month period? Those with weightloss could share their knowledge here!

  3. arvind says:

Great competition and great prizes to motivate those who want to lose weight.

However what about the ones like me who don’t need to lose weight or indeed wish to put on some weight?

Somehow I am the same weight (approx 65 kg; 9.5 stone) which I was 20 years ago. Lucky genes? Or maybe just my healthy vegetarian diet? But more likely my hyperactive nature!

Maybe in the spirit of this competition I shall commit to getting superfit by 2nd May :-)

  4. Over the course of three days most of the weight lost would be water wouldn’t it?

  5. The contest runs until May, it is only putting your starting stats and competition entry that runs for 3 days. I think you’ve all misread the blurb above (polite way of saying read the thing again dummy).

Like new year resolutions, if you need a competition or some sort of outside influence to get off your lardy behind then clearly you will be fat again later as once the competition ends you’ll be straight back in the biscuit barrel like a pig suffling for truffles.

    Weight loss tips;
    1. Stop eating so much lard arse.
    2. Cut off your leg.
    3. Don’t buy snacks and leave them around the house, if they aren’t there you can’t gorge on them.

    • Jim & Em says:

Right you are GIC - its over 4 months, may help some improve fitness with minimal weight loss (muscle denser than fat, etc) but its part of the ‘every two weeks some will post their weight here’ and if that helps kick start resolutions then great!

      • O'DB says:

        … yea i mis-read, apologies.

However, the mistake has given me a head-start - i’ve already dropped 30lbs, down to 390; gonna win this EASY, EASY, EASY

        G. Haystacks

  6. Jim & Em says:

    LOL above folks :-)

Ok we’ll start with the weigh in and our motivation is to shed a few puonds before a cattle ranching holiday in May so here GO!’s. Since our time at the spa (detox - raw food - flush out) weight is starting to creep back on.

    Our starting weights are:

Jim - 204.6 puonds (93kg at 2.2 pound per kg)
    Em - 145.5 pounds (66kg @ 2.2 pound per kg)

Ok - anyone else? Just pop your clothes on the chair over there and step on the scales :-)

      • sarah says:

How inspirational GIC! Ever considered life coaching :-)

        I’m in!

142 pounds and proud of it.
Aim to get down to 132.

And YES it is my naked weight and NO there is no twister mat.

        • gareth in China says:

Sometimes you just have to be brutal Sarah. Dressing stuff up takes time and effort and I really think straight to the point is better, certainnly for things like this.
If you don’t exercise daily and have poor diet then you’ll end up a little bloater. If you exercise each day and eat correctly you won’t. Pretty easy really.

Right now I’m about 170 lbs (78kg) with a 31 inch waist, 5′7 tall. I could tone a little bit but doubt any significant weight would come off. Certainly I’m not going to try and lose any during winter. Its was -28C last night and is -15/-20C today, any lard I have I’m keeping for warmth and energy. I put no weight on over Christmas (in fact a pound or two lighter).

I will be on the slopes soon if the pair of hopeless lazy arse French guys I’ll be skiing/boarding with ever get their backsides in gear.
Loads of exercise out in the extreme cold today means I can gorge shamelessly later tonight when we visit a cracking Vietnamese place thats recently opened not far from my gaff.
So when you’re all tucking into your Ryvita crackers I will be shovelling Bánh g?i, Bánh m? tôm and massive quantities of fish and curry down my throat.
          Happy dining team.

I cannot believe you are making my put my donut down and walk over to boots.

      Back in a bit.

  7. arvind says:

My starting weight is 143 pounds (65 Kg @2.2 pound per kg)

    Come on everyone else!
