The Flowers weight loss contest!

Posted on January 4th, 2008 by Jim

Right, enough is enough! Post xmas our trousers are feeling tight around the waist (no, we’ve not swapped wardrobes) and we need motivation to shed a few KGs / lbs  so what a better time to throw down the gauntlet for a % weight loss contest.

This post may not be for many of you nor will this inspirational image but we wanted to ‘put the feelers out’!

fat_men.jpg

Commencing on Friday 11th January and closing on Friday 2nd May 2008, the winner will be announced on June 1st 2008 with the highest % weight loss AND a convincing 500 word account with diary if possible of how they managed it.

We thought 4 months should cover it nicely! The prize - Flowers, of course AND 7 nights stay for 2 in a Hotel at our cost (we’ll provide the lettuce leaves) to be used between July 1st and September 1st 2008. We’ll post more details as we firm up prizes along with our bodies over the next few months and see how this grows.

All you have to do is post your name in comments right here by Friday 11th January, as this post slides down the page, so we can gauge a level of interest. If it looks like a GO!-er then be ready to post your naked starting weight, in lbs in a special weigh-in post from Friday 12th January. We will then post a progress post every 2 weeks, on Fridays, where you can enter your weight as you GO! with any supporting comments to share.

So, anyone up for it? Comments welcomed and hold the mayo!

Please note: This contest is held in the spirit of the GO! Smell the flowers community and we will not ask for proof and will take what you post as fact together with your final weight and your convincing account.

  3. Gary says:

    but no AC!
I have scrapped plans to go to Chicago in july now and instead will go to JA for two weeks for Reggae Sumfest.

A bird I know who likes me muchly is moving back to JA in June and wants me to visit.

She loves me to bits so its a case of Airfare then chil for a fortnight. Also wants me over there crimbo next.

I only found out y’day so the attraction law has been proved wrong as I had no intention of going Jamaica - until she asked. I reckon she wants my babies.

    • Jim & Em says:

Great - are you in for the comp Garence?

    • aussiecynic says:

      Way to go Gary……..

The Reggae Fest could be good fun……

We all know you are a lady killer we can tell from your sophisticated manner and the polite, mojho way you have about you here…. :o

      Go get them tiger…..
i was only joshing about the LOA thing.. thought I mightget a rise….
      AC

      • Gary says:

I object to the ‘lady killer’ tag

it was manslaughter- well one of them was anyway

        • aussiecynic says:

so you didnt think about it just happened naturally…
          no premeditation in there….
We know you just cant help it…
Its all that witty banter that does it…

          work that Mojo….

          lol

          • Gary says:

            nope

she phoned me crimbo time and said she was missing me

then said she is going back to JA in June and did I want to go with her. Obviously thats not practical so I’m going to go July and see how we get on. if ll is well will go there crimbo.

she is going to get a bar in Ocho Rios.

            so except for the fact
            she’s a great laugh
            looks great
            we both know our roles
            she lives in the caribbean
she will be running a bar
            she knows the place well
            she likes me lots

not a lot going for her really!

  4. jonathan says:

    at least they looked happy!

  5. taylorblue says:

    OMG I would love that…but I don’t have a scale…bummer…

  6. Hé hé… I can found motivation on this site!!! Well… 104 Kg… Hope for 95 Kg… This is the problem… We have good cheese, good specialities… Youp! stop all… I want to be on starting block on Friday… for -9kg…

  7. What a great idea!!! Okay, count me in too. I think 2 kg a month is reasonable without going overboard and for longer lasting effects. Yikes!! I just weighed myself it’s time to get moving. Thanks for the motivation :)

  8. Lib says:

I AM SOOOOO UP FOR THIS!!

I really need to shift some weight ahead of being my brothers bridesmaid in the summer and community pressure works for me. Saves me a tenner joining fat fighters.

I would just like to point out ahead of me declaring my weight, that I am tall/big boned/have genetic over-eating disorder.

Will get weighed tomorrow. How do I explain being naked in Boots though?

    • Jim & Em says:

LOL with the naked in boots - Boots the chemist, right - not what you wear on your feet? :0)

Puss in Boots? Anyway…on we GO!

Welcome aboard and if you do weigh in public then just wear the same clothes when you get weighed every 2 weeks - could be interesting as the spring and summer approaches in the UK, Lib!!!

    • Oh Lib!! you had me roflmao with you trying to explain being naked in Boots! I was wondering what you meant by that.

    • mel says:

lol lib, you are so funny.

I am in too and for my exercise I am just going to read your comments as my stomach muscles work overtime!!!

Just find a really good looking guy, ask him if he will help you by holding your clothes as you undress. That way being naked in Boots will be worth it!

Great idea flowers. Too much chocolate ugggh

      • Lib says:

See now I have the added pressure of being funny whilst trying to lose weight, cheers Mel!

And trust me, if there was a good looking guy in Boots, I would not be getting naked in front of him.

I’ve just had my final fat dinner with friends, roast chicken with shed loads of roasties and chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and having talked about diets this evening, we have decided that the way forward is the baby food diet.

Pureed (does anyone know how to put an accent over a letter?) fruit for breakfast x 2 jars.

Any other x 2 jars for lunch.

        Healthy meal for dinner.

I reckon I may well end up winning this competition.

Its a shame I’m going to end up with an inexplicable addiction to Cow & Gate.

  9. Darn, I wish I could go back in time a year and put the weight I just lost back on so I could join in!!! I went from 140ish to a whopping 108 this year. It sounds drastic, but I am naturally petite so it’s all good.

What a fun contest though, you guys are so cool! :)

  10. ShadowKnight says:

    British or American lbs?

Me being in Australia, a country using the metric system, I will have to use a converter so I want to ensure I get the right formula. But count me in, I have some spare tyres to get rid of.

  11. Gary says:

the best way to do this s to do it not as weight loss

    but as fat loss %

otherwise all I will need to do is go for a colonic and lose this magic 10 kilo of rotting meat that ‘exists’.

I would go more for a change your shape contest.

    if its pure weight loss

I’d just go zero carbs, take 400mg of Dinitrophenol, 125 mcgs of L-tyroxine, 60mcg of Clenbuterol daily and take a shed load of caffeine, smoke loads and thus not eat.

body composition is what matters not scale weight!!

    • Jim & Em says:

      Hmmm,

We wanted to keep it simple and use this post as a simple motivator over the next 16 weeks. % body fat measured can get tricky with lots of rules, right? Using calibration, water submersion and such like.

Trying to keep it billy basic here before we finalise the rules this Friday. What to do?

  12. J&E, Bridget is mightily upset with this contest…You’ll have to make it up to her, the next one should be weight GAIN contest ha! ;)

  13. Funepets says:

We funepets are not over weight….yet…he he he

  14. It’s so embarrassing to see my family reunion photo seen on other sites like this .. so your tactic worked. Good show. I guess I can be in, since I’m monitoring myself anyway once again this year.

  15. matt says:

Yes, I decided to have my head amputated in order to win your contest. I figure it weighs a good 12lbs with all my brainage. thank you

  16. gareth in China says:

Surely this means the scales are tipped (excuse the pun) in the favour of lardbuckets.
If you don’t have too much body fat today then it would mean you need to lose fat and muscle. Some of us could end up looking like the heavy weight champion of Belsen if we try and participate.
