Go! Reenter the work Place

Mike here entering back from space

apollo-re-entry-702078.jpg

Yesterday was my first day preparing to leave my “Home Dad” orbit as my kids all go full time at school. In many ways it’s a strange feeling as it has been 8 years now since quiting my R&D job in optic design to look after them.

In that time I’ve had to learn to multi-task(A challenge for a man!), studied theology, written and illustrated a novel, started a blog and changed nappies a thousand times.

And you know what? I loved it. Being full time with the kids has been a life changing experience.

But now it is time to splash back down into the vast ocean of work.

So I will keep you posted Flower Smellers on what I decide to do. I’m thinking something where I can be creative and flexible in the hours I work.

Feel free to make any suggestions!

How about an astronaut!? Hmm, maybe a problem with the school run there.

Hi there Mike
And well done on the home dad thing…..
I faced the same sort of challenge but thats when I started my blogging….

The best thing I can suggest is to work from home..
Must IT and design work can be done over the internet most images get sent through emails anyway… as does adverts etc… this way when you need to go out you can… but you can arrange your hours and time around when you have both….
But work from home has to be the best way to go….

Hi Mike - Well done! (and good luck with the re-entry!)

I did househusband bit myself for 8 years ( my youngest was 2 months old when his mum went back to work) and yes I did all manner of jobs part-time to help make finances work - learnt a lot, made new friends (a lot of them women) and generally got accepted into a new circle!

Been back at work a few years now. A chance meeting led to my IT role - self taught web design etc …. just another chapter etc but at least I (we’ve) been there and done that and I have a very close relationship with my kids even though they now live with their mum, which is great.
