Our flower smelling thoughts GO! out to the Northern Salmon Company, Northern Ireland’s only Salmon farm who have suffered jellyfish attacks, wiping out all 100,00’s of thousands of their stock.
Further huge jellyfish swarms, in the billions (16 square km and 9 metres deep) have now been reported off the coast of Scotland, according to the Marine Conservation Society. The Pelagia nocticula species, or “mauve stinger,” ordinarily is found in warmer waters such as the Mediterranean Sea. Scientists pointed to the presence of the jellyfish, rarely seen that far north, as evidence of global warming and over fished water. Yep, global warming!
Comments welcomed on this recent sting! What is your take on Salmon farming and killer Jellyfish?

Wow hadn’t heard about that one guys….
The increase in Jelly fish population and their off track migration would be related to global warming and the rise in sea temperature along with reduced salinity levels and this would through the creatures tracking system out….
In Karuah River at port Stephens NSW a few years back we were coming through the river entrance heading into the bay and there were millions of Jellyfish surrounding us. Our boat was guilding across the top and the propellar was literially chopping them into peices (sounded horrible) they spread for Kilometres…this along algie blooms, the platum issue and others have long since been telling us of problem it is only when it hits in the hip pocket that people generally take notice… It also appears with the whale dieing in the Amazon River the other day, mass beachings and ocean creatures in areas they normally aren’t that there is a real problem looking at some of the research data it will get worse before its better ….

I cant say I feel too sorry for Salmon farmers, maybe they’ve ran out of pink dye and steroids to pump their produce upp
The cynic in me cries ‘ insurance job’ but googling the facts it does appear to be a majr wipe out. Is this the end of Salmon?
Hi! I feel sorry for the salmon farmers. No matter what the cause their families are now at risk of going without. Just hope they will recover and last out this freak incident.
All I can say is, the earth is warming now. It is NOT global warming as the loonies say,, but the cyclical changes in our weather that has happened ever since the beginning. Remember 30 years ago, these same nuts were predicting that we were all about to die from the coming ice age.

Hi all,
Good article, I was going to cover this one myself only the whaling saga took over. It’s still an incredible story though, a whole salmon stock getting wiped out overnight so to speak.
I’ve heard about swarming jellyfish many times before, even as a child these freak swarms happened occasionally, I don’t know if it’s global warming or what.
I did read once before though there was an extra hot or long summer (global warming? ) which caused the jellyfish to overpopulate and produce thousands more than in previous years.
Tip for the future: Jellyfish proof your salmon stock
Tony:)
Heard this on the news.
Thought of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, that I recently finished and posted on here at Flowers.
In it the characters visit a salmon farm, which is heaving with fish in tanks. The dumb politician thinks it’s great and mentions to the PM later that he knows a good spot for a bit of salmon fishing!
They should implement a mass catch. Jellyfish is widely eaten in China and there’s almost 1.4 billion people here so probably a Jelly fish for each person. They could give them as a free gift to promote friendship, understanding, peace and hamrony, ahhhhh
They eat JELLYFISH…
No sting?
Its strange, no real flavour but I guess the only analagy I can make is its what you might imagine eadible bubble wrap to be like. It’s mainly served in vinegar, least ways thats the way it always is when I eat it.
I really feel sorry for the families of the salmon farmers but I don’t like salmon anyway. Now……if the jellyfish start messing with my tuna there’s gonna be a whooping!
I’m with ya! Same witrh Red snapper…Salomn is to ‘gravelly’ for my tastes…
Who exactly are these daffodils floral people?
